MemberIt’s weird, I got a new laptop from my mother (it’s her old one, but it’s still quite new) I look in the processes and it says that aim.exe is running, but the actual program never comes up. I have downloaded many different versions from different sites and none of them have worked. Does anyone have any idea what it is. I’m running on Windows XP on SBC Yahoo DSL on an Averatec laptop. Thank you guys so much

MemberI had that problem with aim triton. There is a seperate uninstaller in the folder and you have to use that to get it off your system. Personally i’ll stick with 5.9 its better and their are no problems.

MemberI like the 5.2 though because I can run it with DeadAIM 4.5. It works on my desktop computer but for some reason on my laptop, any version of 5.2 doesn’t work and it’s driving me crazy. I don’t like the newer versions at all so I wanted the older ones to work, I just don’t know how to get the actual program to come up.

ParticipantForgive me if I’m vastly underestimating your abilities here…
Is the orange running man in your notification area? (Bottom-right of the screen) and if not, is there an arrow that opens up the notification area and displays more icons, perhaps it’s hidden in there?

MemberEven after i clicked on it to close and exit it didn’t. i unstalled it from the conttrol panel and every restart the little aol symbol was in the taskbar and aol.exe was a running process. i had to go into the program itself and search through the folders for their uninstall before i could rid of it.

Memberno no no no no. My AIM program doesn’t even come up. The icon doesn’t come on in the tray and I wait and wait and wait for it to come up but it never does, but then when I look in the processes the aim.exe is running, yet for some reason the program never appears.

MemberI had the same problem last summer with AIM 5.2. I went into my AIM directory and noticed some files was missing (aim odl file, aimres.dll, aimcoresvcs.dll). I never deleted their files, but somehow AIM would delete them by itself after 2-3 days everytime I would re-install the program.
I went into the folder and put those files in “Read Only” mode and the problem went away.

Memberdang, I tried that too. I went into the AIM folder and put all those files under read only and tried to open the program again but it still doesn’t work. All those files that you said that AIM deleted weren’t deleted there, they were all there when I checked the AIM directory.

MemberDreamrose, did you delete the entire AIM directory manually, install AIM, set them to read only, and THEN run it?

ParticipantUninstall your current version of AIM, go to http://www.oldversion.com and get v5.2.3292, remove c:Program FilesAIM, and install to c:Program FilesAIM5.2, and give that a try. It’s likely there is some sort of versioning conflict somewhere, and that’s why it fails to launch properly.

MemberI did that and relabled it before I installed it and it still didn’t work. The same thing happens everytime. I can’t believe that this is happening, nothing is working!

Memberyou can always did what i did. uninstall triton and reinstall 5.9. i have this gut feeling triton is going to cause problems for many people.

MemberI have never even installed Triton and I’ve never installed 5.9 either. I’ve only tried with 5.2.

MemberI’ve run into a similar issue a few times. For some reason, and I think their might be a bug in the AIM installer that is to blame….it seems that the installation of AIM itself gets something corrupted in Windows itself. I’m using XP Pro SP 2, and on both Triton and AIM 5.2.3292 I’ve ran into that issue. You can seriously see aim.exe running under processes in the task manager, but the messenger itself won’t open up no matter what you do. Even after uninstalling absolutely anything AOL/AIM related and doing registry cleaning/empty temp files/folders…the issue is still there.

MemberI am having the exact same problem, and it’s driving me insane! I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled, tried older versions…but the sign on screen will not pop up even though it is running in processes. I really hope someone can help…
