MemberYes, in there are directions in your hotmail account.
In Outlook, click the Tools menu, and then click E-mail Accounts.
Click Add a new e-mail account, and then click Next.
Click HTTP, and then click Next.
Type the required information, and then make sure Hotmail is selected as the HTTP Mail Service Provider.
If you do not select the Remember password check box, you will be asked to enter your password in step 5 below. To help protect your privacy, do not select the Remember password check box unless you are the only person with access to the program.
Do not select the Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) check box.
Click Next.
Click Finish.Look in your netscape account. Should be in the help section, search for outlook.

MemberHere it is. Please tell me if it works, I never tried it (I don’t use Netscape email). I just wrote it up, and it should work.
I don’t know what bothers you, but if it’s the flashing icon there is hope 🙂 I spent a few minutes looking through the resources in the AIM files and found what you need.
I strongly suggest that you backup your AimRes.dll file in case you messed up or my instructions are not completely accurate… don’t blame me if something goes wrong, but it shouldn’t. 🙂
First, get this program. It might be a little while to download if you’re not on broadband, since the only mirrors I found are from Australia and Europe.
When you get that, open ResHacker.exe. This program will let you look inside the resources used in AIM.
- Go to File -> Open… and go to your AIM directory (usually C:Program FilesAIM95) and pick AimRes.dll
- Click on the + by “Icon” on the left panel
- If you have Windows 9x you need to look at number 56, if you have Windows XP you need to look at 61. These are the normal icons when you don’t have any mail (or so I would suspect)
- Click on the +’s by numbers 108-111 if you use Windows 9x or 112-113 if you use Windows XP
- Right click on the appropriate number for your operating system (for example 108->1033) and choose “Replace Resource…”
- Click on “Open file with new icon…” and choose AimRes.dll
- Try to find either 56 or 61 as I mentioned earlier on. If not there (most likely) choose 120
- Replace the resource
- Repeat for the rest of the ones needed, either 108-111 or 112-113… note they are different sizes I don’t know if that is important…
- Quit AIM all the way… shut it down. Then go to File -> Save
If any other modders find a mistake, please post here.
If you have any questions ask here.
Good Luck! 😀March 4, 2004 at 11:17 pm #48706DangerBoy
MemberFimus, the guy said he wanted the flashing crap. Are you blind? You just wasted all that time posting a tutorial for the exact opposite of his question.
lxlther, learn how to ask questions that include exactly what you want so you don’t get these kinda answers.
Ok, so I’m gonna be nice and helpful here and tell you what he wants in plain terms:
How can you get AIM to flash that you have mail when you get a new email from your Yahoo! or Hotmail account. If he sets up Netscape to recieve the Yahoo/Hotmail email, will AIM notify via the annoying flash?
Capish?

MemberIf you are subscribed to the pay services for the POP/STMP servers from Yahoo and Hotmail/MSN, then you can but if you only have the free accounts then you can’t.
You might want to try free programs like http://www.PopPeeper.com or http://www.EPrompter.com to check for new messages in Yahoo and Hotmail/MSN. Or, have your Yahoo! Messenger and Windows/MSN Messenger turned on.

Memberyou guys, take time and reread his question. reread it again. and now again until you all get it in your head before answering with a stupid answer. first of all. he wants to know if he can make it so that you can divert mail from yahoo or hotmail into the netscape inbox so that whenever he gets a new mail in yahoo or hotmail, the mail sign starts to flash up. not that hard if you read his first post and get it the first time around…
