MemberJust something strange I noticed with AIM 5.5… it takes up about 26,000KB of memory (more than any Windows app I run) and when I move the IM windows around, they seem to move slowly and jagged (not smooth and fast). Anyone know why?

MemberWhat kind of processor do you have…When your moving the windows thats what it stresses if its an old machine..
And as for your ram issue… Just buy more, you can get a 256 stick for like 30$.Ram is about as cheap as its going to get nowadays.

MemberActually… I tried moving the AIM windows on another machine and it responds slow as well. Both machines have 512MB ram. I think it’s a bug in AIM 5.5. It only happens when I move the “IM conversation” window, but not any other windows. WEIRD.

MemberThis is exactly why I didnt download aim 5.5, a friend of mine has the same problem, and he as a nice Pentium 3, 2.3 gHZ prossessor. Also, does anyone know a version of aim that has basic features that normal people use and takes up as little RAM as possible?

Member4.8 or 5.2
4.8 if you just want the simple program, that allows chat, buddy icons, file sending.
5.2 if you like some of the fancy things like AIM expressions.February 15, 2004 at 8:40 am #49801dantheman353
MemberSorry, I got an Intel Chipset, Intel Pentium 4M processor.

MemberYep… 5.5 is a killer… you need like 3Ghz just to run it fast..Go back to 5.2 or 4.8 or something… they were the good versions..

…It runs fine on a 1GHz. AIM isn’t CPU-intensive, you just need a stable OS and a good amount of RAM (256MB Min).

Because for most users a dialog will appear when AIM loads saying that you should upgrade to the newest version.
