MemberHello – I’m hoping someone can help me with a very frustrating problem. I’ve used AIM for years and have never had any problems until yesterday afternoon. I can sign on with no problems, but once I send one IM the program (just AIM) freezes. Eventually the dialogue box goes white with a [Not Responding] message at the top. I have to shut down, and start it up again and I can IM again one time, and then it freezes again. So far, I have:
Run a virus scan – nothing
Checked for Windows Registry Problems – nothing
Uninstalled AIM several times, rebooted and reinstalled – nothing
Defragged and deleted Temporary Internet Files – nothing.
Downloaded an Ad-Aware program and Spy Software – nothingI’m so frustrated!!! I have also searched AIM’s knowledgebase but it doesn’t appear as though anyone else on the face of the earth has had this problem. I find it very odd that the newly installed AIM’s have the exact same problem. I had some problems with Outlook but it could have been a coincidence and after rebooting OE has worked just fine.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I use AIM for work!
Thanks…

MemberHave you tried AIM’s Triton Beta? If that works/doesn’t work, it will alow us to greatly narrow down possible causes: http://beta.aol.com/projects/tritonbeta/index.html?

I hadn’t upgraded AIM at all when the problem first started, then I upgraded to the latest version and it has continued. The most recent change to my computer is the install of battlefield 2, but i don’t think a game like that could screw with AIM but it is posible.
Downloading the beta now to see if that fixes it
*edit*
The beta has seemed to fix my problems with the crashing. I’ll use this for a little bit to see if i like it, but so far it is a little too cluttered with the whole voice video games files tabs thingAugust 18, 2005 at 9:51 pm #127292Jon8RFC
MemberOh wait, have either of you modified icbmui.ocm or aimres.dll in any way? If you want to give some clean files a try, even if you haven’t modified them, I have a huge amount of those default files in perfect condition for every version of AIM from 4.8.2790 through 5.9.3861.
http://jon8rfc.homeip.net/aim/default_3Just navigate your way through until you get to your build of 4.8 5.0, etc, and grab those two, or even all three if you want to give it a shot. If you don’t know your version of AIM, you can check it in two different places: the sign-on screen where you enter your password (it’s at the bottom); on your buddylist in the menu up top HELP > ABOUT.

MemberThe same problem happened to me. In December of last year, I got a new computer, and one of the first programs I installed was AIM. To this day, I have not been able to fix the AIM freezing after the first IM problem. I’ve tried uninstalling it completely, tried the Triton Beta, tried older versions, etc., and so far, none have worked.
The odd thing is that it only affects ONE screen name. The others seem to work fine. Unfortunately, that one SN is the one I use most.
