MemberWhen you say restarting, do you mean you’re being disconnected completely, or does the “reconnect” dialog pop up and it reconnects you shortly after? Is your connection to the internet wireless?

Memberit shows the reconnect thing and it stays at starting service and does nothing else and sometime it will reconnect

Come check out what I have to say about upgrading AIM later today or tomorrow at my blog…if you think AIM 5.2 is stable as compared to AIM 4.0 yes you are correct, but to say that it is more stable than AIM 5.5, might be a fallacy.

MemberI’ll post what I said to someone else:
Jon8RFC (11:10:21 AM): well, 4226 is a thing they added in sp2, and also re-added in at least 2 microsoft security/critical updates…it limits tcp “half-open” (whatever that means) connections to 10…it used to be unlimited in sp1 and previous, but they added the limit to prevent the spreading of worms
Jon8RFC (11:10:50 AM): its terrible for file sharing and can be spotted easily on shareaza…i always notice when a new update reset the limit, because i barely connect
Jon8RFC (11:10:56 AM): i read about it on the shareaza forums
Jon8RFC (11:11:02 AM): and got a patch to fix it there as well
Jon8RFC (11:11:37 AM): only recently did i think that it might be the cause of disconnects when the user is running multiple apps that use an internet connection
Jon8RFC (11:12:59 AM): the patch makes a world of difference…it defaults to reset to 50, but it max it out at something like 16777205 or something
Jon8RFC (11:13:14 AM): which is how sp1 used to beI can’t say for sure whether that is the cause or not (maxing out the connections), but if you check the timestamp and compare it to when you were disconnected, then that is most likely your problem.
For a while, I used a pre-configured tcp/ip file, but “lvllord” kept improving his event 4226 patch to the point where I use that because it’s faster, can always check to see if tcpip.sys was reset, and he keeps it up-to-date with new microsoft security/critical releases via WindowsUpdate.
I set mine to the max, as I stated above. When it’s reset, Windows will alert you that a non-recognized file replaced the original (or something similar), but just click ignore and you’re good to go. If you’re worried about stability, I can tell you that I’ve been using a patched tcpip.sys file since well before 2005 and haven’t had any problems…except when windowsupdate releases a patch and it includes a new tcpip.sys file, then I run the patcher again and I’m good to go!

MemberI’m also having this problem. I’ll be talking to someone online then it will just freeze. I’ll look at their profile and it will say “Please Wait..” Then after a few minutes I will get the connection window. This is not an internet problem cause when AIM freezes and I can immediatly surf the internet without any slow downs. Also when the reconnect window does come up, it connects back quickly without any problems.
