MemberI just got vista up and running and trying to get aim to work. I’m using the 6.1 ver. for vista and it is running good. The problem is it doesn’t run threw the network at work. If I connect with my phone, it runs….but threw the network it just says transferring, and sits there. any help? checked ports and cant figure it out.

MemberI hope this helps with my reply. When I installed Vista the same thing happened to me with all the other instant messaging program(WLM/ICQ) at first it will take some time to sign in but eventually it will get you in, this could be the Windows Defender doing it’s job. The first WLM sign-in attempt took so long that I had to exit the program and try again, in the end it got me in and the same happened with ICQ then after the first weird experience you’re supposed to be able to log in without any problems. If you’re still facing problems try to disable Windows Defender for a minute and see if you’ll be able to log in even though I recommend that you wait on it for a while(Took me around 6-7 minutes on the first WLM Sign-in attempt) but after that everything should work fine.

MemberI had a similar problem trying to get AIM 6 working within Vista Enterprise. It would constantly kick me back saying that it could not connect to server. I tried turning off the Windows Firewall, disabling Defender, uninstalling and reinstalling AIM, to no avail. I finally gave up and went back to AIM 5.9.
Honestly, AIM 6 is bloated anyways. I’d recommended using AIM 5.9 and checking out either middle_man, Vario, or Messenger:Mate. So far, I have gotten all three to work on Vista, although I’ve had some specific problems with Vario that I think are specific to me for some reason, as others have had no problems. Look up some of Jon8RFC’s mods, and you’re good to go.
On another note, I’m on a University network at work, and some of my coworkers told me only AIM Pro works without problem through our network, so you might want to give that a try and see if you get the same problems.
