I have found that the 32-bit AIM program icons do not display as 32-bit in Windows operating systems that are not XP. Even if the color mode is set to 32-bit, the icon will only display in 256 colors.
Why am I the only one who has the plain yellow icon on windows XP pro, while everyone else I know has a cool 32bit one?
Make sure you’re display mode is set to Highest (32-bit) in the Display Control Panel.
That must be why the guy who made AIm-PLus had a ugly yellow and green icon. Sprmn does this the desktop icon, the icons in AIM, or both?
I used an icon program to see what icons were in the aim.exe file, which were the icons pictured in the previous post. Those icons are used for the program shortcut that is placed in the start menu and desktop. I also used the program to see what icons were in the aimres.dll file and found these icons, which are displayed in the system tray when AIM is running:
The 32-bit icon will not work unless your operating system is Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 and your display mode is set to 32-bit. The 32-bit icons will not be displayed in previous versions even if the display mode is set to 32-bit.
I used ResHack to replace the 16 and 256 color icons with the 32-bit icons in the AimRes.dll file. Both the 16 and 256 color icons have been deleted, so it can only be used in 32-bit mode.
Only for use with AIM 5.2.3292. It is compatible with DeadAIM 3.2.

I also included a 32-bit logo for the program shortcut.
