MemberHi all, been a while since I’ve been here, but here I am, and I am a bit PO’ed, in the past couple months I have noticed my second screen name mysteriously signing on all by itself, I have my second screen name on my firsts buddy list for some reason, but I am glad, cuz that is how I have noticed it coming on, well, the first time it happened I quickly signed on and changed the password, well, it is has just happened again, unfortunatly this time I don’t remember wut I changed the pass to so I can’t change it again, but has anyone ever had this problem?? I just don’t understand how my password is being found out?? I dont’ know wut to think?? Is there something I can do to secure my pass?? It is weird??

ParticipantEither you have a keylogger installed or you are not selecting secure passwords and someone is simply guessing them.
Now that you don’t know the password, good luck, you won’t be able to do anything unless you remember it.

MemberWut is a keylogger, is that like a keystroke recorder? Is that something that someone could have installed over the net, cuz I can not think of one single person that would want to do this?? I am guessing it is just some random person that doesn’t even know me, there is no one that lives at my house or that I physically know that would be interested in something like this, I mean literally, could this be being done by just some random person who has nothing better to do?? 🙁

Yes, it could be. Most keyloggers that are used for malicious purposes are installed by the user by accident.
A keylogger records every keystroke and sends it to a remote location. (Or logs it in a textfile somewhere on your computer)

MemberSo if I have that on my puter, ppl over the internet who don’t even know me could find the log and use my passwords? Or it kinda sounds like you are saying that I could have installed it by accident and someone has it set up to send the logs to them, since you say it can be sent to a remote location??

Yes, someone could have logs of all your passwords, it’s possible.

ParticipantI have also found that if you suddenly disconnect from the internet (ex. unplug your DSL modem or other modems) or click Exit on the AIM man instead of clicking Sign Off, it still shows up as if you were logged in. SO if you sign on another screen name, it will still show that name as logged in. It happens to me all the time.

MemberSign on your screen name and check the email that the name is registered to. If whoever stole your password changed your email address without you knowing, no matter how many times you change your pass it won’t matter. They can just request the password for your screenname and it will go right to their email.
