MemberHi,
my dad recently put Linux on the computer and I haven’t got a clue what im doing. By any chance does anyone know what this means/or what to do with it, “Some package requested cannot be installed:
amsn-0.93-1.i586 (due to unsatisfied libtk8.4.so)”? Thanks in advance. 🙂September 2, 2004 at 5:05 am #38846DXtremz
MemberLib TK isn’t happy :o. Reinstall the Latest TK …or at least 8.4 (Which I think is the latest version anyway). Check out http://rpms.mandrakeclub.com/search.php?query=libtk for an RPM of LibTK. Either that or compile the TK libs yourself. Or you can just search the web for a version of LibTK for your version of Mandrake, as I’m not sure mandrakeclub.com has them for MDK 9 and all. Personally I prefer using GAIM to AMSN. GAIM has MSN/AIM etc. And it has a lot of plugins and spell checking and everything. http://gaim.sourceforge.net/
If you need more help, feel free to post, and I’ll do my best. (Or a certain Mod will bug me to answer you ;))March 26, 2005 at 4:46 pm #38848dj.bri.t
MemberHmm…what version of Linux was installed? I’m running Mandrake 9.2 at home, and I had no trouble installing AMSN.
Just a hint when it comes to Linux. Whenever possible, ALWAYS download an RPM file. It’s the Windows equivelent of an .msi (Windows Installer Package), and it automates file installation, and will usually even add the link in your applications menu. I’m pretty sure I installed AMSN with an RPM.
I’ve also used both AMSN and GAIM. GAIM tends to be a bit more of a memory hog, and it’s layout isn’t what you’d expect. I’d stick with AMSN if you’re looking for a familiar look.

A word about RPMs, make sure you get the RPM that is for your -exact- distribution. An RPM compiled for Red hat or Mandrake 7.0 won’t work with your install.
