MemberI have AOL, and its going to be discontinued soon, the only problem is that I have an AOL screen name that I use for AIM. Is there any way that I can keep using my AOL screen name on AIM after AOl has been deleted. My boyfriend had AOL delete his screen name when AOl was disconnected…And knowing if there was a way to either prevent or recover screen names would help alot. Thanks!

Memberi heard of a lot of AOL “discontinue” hoaxs. they put a couple things in my mail saying that if you do not forward this email to at least 10 people then they will cancel my aol subscription but it turns out… i dont use Aol!

MemberAny kind of BS like that, whether it’s spam email or IM, is wrong. AOL doesn’t check accounts that way.
Here’s what you do: When your AOL account is set to die, sign on your NEW ISP (Verizon, BellSouth, Comcast, Earthlink… whatever you’ll now use for your internet connection) and AIM. Let the time pass. If you get kicked off, go grab the screenname again. I doubt that you’ll lose your AIM account, though.
One sure fire way you won’t lose your AIM account is to get a free email address from Yahoo! or the likes and changing that AIM account over to that email address.

I may have misunderstood, but I thought she meant she was discontinuing her AOL service and switching to a different ISP. She just doesn’t want to lose the screen name she created under her AOL account (which in theory, would still be good for AIM regardless of her ISP).

You were right… I was talking about being able to use my aol screen name after I delete AOL…But it takes up to six months for the screen name to be available again… Is there any way to bypass that 6 month waiting period?:confused::confused: or is whole thing just hopeless?:(
Thanx-Katie

MemberHmmm well you can download AIM again and then when you sign on just use your current sign on name and password for AIM. Though i dont have AOL so not sure if it will work the same with that. I just have AIM and thats how it works for me whenever i have to download it again.

MemberHmmmmmmm….. don’t know about the discontinuation thing, but just thought you all might want to know that AOL holds screen names for a long time after they’re deleted! So if you lose it, forget about getting it back!

MemberI have noticed numerous of times whenever I’d call AOL to cancel my service with AOL. I can only use the screen name with the Master access (or whatever it is called), not the second screen name I had. I guess if you want to keep your AOL screen name for AIM, you have to switch that screen name to the Master access?
