Some of them were really nice actually. Yet, they couldn’t help me. One guy suggested that I should sign up for a free month to see if that could get me screenname back. He said that I could cancel it within a month.

I asked for help from someone who know someone who works for AOL. As AOL don’t respond to e-mail, there is no way to contact them to release inactive screennames for registration.
This should be rather easy to accomplish for a DBA at AOL…
