AOL has finally released the first new version of their AOL Instant Messenger in nearly a year. I’ve been using version 4.8 for a while in it’s beta form, and quite frankly I’m not really excited about the new features.
So what’s new in 4.8? A lot of little things.- You can send email and access your address book
- You can configure AOL Alerts to automatically send you email updates about sport scores, stock quotes, news and weather.
- Send greetings directly through AIM
- Send your entire buddy list to another users
Nothing to get too excited about. Certainly nothing that we couldn’t do before using some other web site. Yawn.
On the bright side, it does appear to be pretty stable, so it should be safe to download AIM 4.8.
