ParticipantAlright, what the hell, you guys…someone…anyone…Jeff maybe, please tell me you know who Arlo Guthrie is. Please. Anyone. If you don’t, you need to hear him.
I just saw him in concert, I grew up knowing who he was because my mother named my older brother after him. He’s a folkish singer guy. In his 60’s…his dad wrote that song “This land is your land”…and all that fun crap. He’s really great in concert. He was known as a draft dodger, a hippy, a pot smoker, a story teller and a contraversial singer/songwriter who hung out with people like Janis Joplin. He’s really great in person. Really personal, down to earth…and funny! He has this 20 minute long song, Alice’s Restaurant…it’s great. Anyway, he’s funny because he’ll be singing, then stop in the middle of it, just cut right off, and start talking about something he just thought about. And he said something really funny about that song his dad made…He says “From California…to the New York Islands. From Redwood Forest, to the Gulf stream waters…well…you don’t have to go the short way. Go the long way around…then everyone in the world would be singing it…except the US…hah!” Just goofy things like that.
He said one more thing I have to share here…he said “You know…I was just thinking…if we had a perfect world, a utopia, all of that, whatever. Do you know how hard it would be to make a good deed!?! I mean…c’mon. But if the world freaking sucks(!!!) like the one we live in now…I mean just think about how little you do that means so much to so many. We’re lucky life blows!” Hah! What a guy…
But yeah, please, someone tell me you’ve heard of him…I’ve told 5 people today and they all just looked at me blankly.

MemberEver heard the Song that goes “I’m the train they called the city of New Orleans…” That’s him. Not only did he write a Song called “Alice’s Restaurant” and starred in a movie of the same name. He is the son of the FAMOUS folk singer Woddie (edit: WOODIE) Guthrie. Of COURSE I know who he is! Don’t worry…you must have been talking to people who didn’t get out much as children 😉
