ParticipantThey arent shutting down the network coolguy please re-read my post. As you can see they are CHANGING the protocol, which means if they do this all other programs like kazaa lite and older versions of the original will be obsolete. This really hasent been confirmed yet but Sharman Networks as stated that removing all major links to download kazaa lite is the first step in taking down k-lite. If you were talking about the supernode thing, than please use the help contents of k-lite or kazaa and look up what a supernode is. That my friend will give you a better understanding of what i meant.

Memberhey thanx
well as u said tht they r changing the protocols. Well by doing tht, they are in a way stopping all the other programs like Kazaa Lite, Grokster and Imeh also. Now, if it was only concerned with Kazaa Lite, they could have done it, but how are they gonna force the other 2 (mind you Imesh is very popular)??? I am really doubtful if the network is gonna change…

MemberI don’t think it would effect those other programs. Napster is dead, but there still are many OpenNap servers/clients around.
And yes, as far as I am concerned Napster itself is still dead.December 14, 2003 at 3:14 am #52490Anonymous
ParticipantAnyone have any opinions on Limewire? I used to use it when I had a mac and it worked pretty good.

MemberAs at this date I am using and/or have available to use immediately the following P2P apps, (alphabetical order).
Aqua Lime — http://mamiyaotaru.mangatoanime.com
BearShare — http://www.bearshare.com
Direct Connect — http://www.neo-modus.com a secure client with triple the content of Kazaa.
Earth Station 5 — http://www.earthstationv.com a secure client.
Filetopia — http://www.filetopia.com another secure client.
Freenet — http://freenet.sourceforge.net The level of security here has attracted freaks like anarchists, terrorists and rock spiders however the security is absolute and I make no excuse for the content.
Hotline — http://www.hotspringsinc.com security plus.
Kazaa lite — Bye-bye.
Overnet — http://edonkey2000.com/
Piolet — http://www.piolet.com secure encryption used
Soulseek — http://www.slsk.org/
Waste — http://sourceforge.net/projects/waste Uber secure private networks, not for the newbies. 🙂December 15, 2003 at 8:28 pm #52473detn8r
ParticipantI’ve just tried overnet. (free version) It has a really nice GUI. But, upon searching for artists only, it shows alot of the same songs, mostly their newer, and more popular ones. I’ve had the best results when searching like as follows: “artist – song”. IMP, not a good enough alt. to kl.

MemberIf this is about music why was it posted here?
December 16, 2003 at 3:53 pm #52472detn8r
ParticipantBecause MUSIC is a factor. P2P is not just about music. It just so happens a few posts were ablut the audio part of the app.

MemberI dont know why all of you think K++ is gone. The site was simply moved to a smaller location =)
So rustedtight you might want to consider removing Bye-Bye from your post of diffrent alternatives and try changing it too http://kppfree.narod.ru/kdown.htmThey provide links too diffrent sites that still host the file and they also provide a download to KMD 2.6 RC4 even though i cant seem to be able to get it too work.
Im evaluating some of the other P2P and will update this post later with what i found.

MemberEarthStationV is I believe now quite secure. there has been some attacks on their integrity and it was unfounded.

ParticipantThe original build of Kazaalite has been taking from the creators but they are using diet kazaa with some of their own tools to make a new kazaa lite build as someguy as already mentioned. You can read more about P2P and its programs and the newest Info on http://www.peerguardian.net/forums/index.php?
It even has an interview of the kazaalite creators

ParticipantOK………………………… so we all know KMD, and K++ will not be replaced anytime soon, but why not start looking? I was fed up K++’s crap because of the RIAA, and frequent disconnections, that it made me search deep. I have come up with the following:
In the midst of locating anything worthy of my likings, I had tried the following:
*Ares Galaxy
*WinMX
*EarthStationV
*Waste
*OverNet
*SoulSeek
(and some others rustedtight has addressed above)Just recently, someone had mentioned in another forum that Shareaza was a awesome piece of software. I could not help but check it out.
Shareaza has features that are unheard of in other file-sharing applications, from ghost ratings to a completely user-configurable queue area to multinetwork support. Shareaza originally started out as a Gnutella client, but recently branched out and developed gnutella2, a completely open and documented network. Boasting 50,000+ users, gnutella2 is well on its way to the top. In addition, Shareaza supports the eDonkey network and BitTorrent. Shareaza’s interface is easy-to-use yet powerful, and fully skinnable.
Shareaza’s download core was purpose-built to provide optimum performance from any number of sources. Shareaza can manage your download queue automatically, or you can take charge and modify the status of files or even individual physical transfers and sources.Download Shareaza (1.68MB) and tell me if you agree.
So out of all my findings so far, SoulSeek, and Shaeeaza are at the top of my list.
