KeymasterWould an @bigblueball.com email account powered by Gmail be of interest to the staff?
Currently I’ll setup redirects for any staff member (i.e. shifter@bigblueball.com) but this is another option, and Google just asked me if I’d like to beta test. You’ll basically get all the features of Gmail, but with an @bigblueball.com address.
The only catch is this. If we decide to do this, we’ll ALL need to switch over.
Of course, as with regular Gmail, you can setup forwarding and POP3 access and all the rest.

Participantmeh… i have my outlook setup so i can still send from my bigblueball address if i wish. i still have yet to send anything from it, and i dont think i’ve received anything to it either.
it’d potentially be interesting. if we decide to switch over, i have no problem, but i dont use it enough to need it.

MemberI’d love to try it out. I saw this page and wanted to try it out, unfortunately I am obviously not a business or group of people. And I’ve rarely emailed from my @bigblueball address, even though I’d like to.
Please, by all means go for it! I’d love to see it happen.

MemberI’m usually happy to try anything. I have GMail, but never use it.
I also have too many available email addresses as it is – but a “BBB” one would be kinda worth adding to the bunch, esp. for special uses. 😉April 21, 2006 at 10:41 am #142968DrBroccoli
ParticipantOoh! I saw this thread title and I was all over it! I say let’s try it out.

MemberI use Gmail, and just can’t stop using it! Let’s definetly give it a shot.

MemberDoesnt interest me much since I already have many accounts to look after but if everyone wants to switch over why should I have a problem though I do believe people will use their BBB address more less often than they currently do since now they’ll need to login to a seperate account to check it. I know noone is going to take out time to enable the email forwarding or even if people do whats the point in keeping a gmail id when you’re going to forward its mails to some other account? Waste of resources

MemberRemember, guys, this is totally optional, you wouldn’t need to use this if Jeff implemented it.
And, besides, it’s Google we’re talking about here, have any of you ever seen anything that Google designed that wasn’t good or even great? I say go for it!

MemberI have come to this late….sorry been running around site like a crazy person all week. I think it’s kind of a cool option to check out…why not?
EDIT’
Forgot to add….it’s also kind of flattering Google asked us….or is this just something they do to a lot of sites?April 21, 2006 at 11:52 pm #142907Jeff Hester
KeymasterOk, here’s the deal:
I’m going to set this up, but only for those of you who are interested.
I will use [bbbusername]@bigblueball.com, but I can setup aliases (so if Shifter also wants to be known as marcus@bigblueball.com he can).Google requires the following information:
- First and last name. (If you do anything you shouldn’t with the account, Google made me promise to delete your account).
- Any alias you want to use.
- That’s it!
Google will create a temporary password which I’ll send you via PM, and it will prompt you to change it the first time you sign-in.
If you are interested, please reply with your first and last, and I’ll start setting it up. So far I’ve got:
- david@bigblueball.com (Dave Amenta)
- oreo@bigblueball.com (Elisa Iorio)
- spike@bigblueball.com (Jake ?)
- lucifina@bigblueball.com (Vanessa ?)
- mroats@bigblueball.com (? ?)
- eagle_kiwi@bigblueball.com (Ian ?)
- shadowdogmu@bigblueball.com (Brock Arthur)
- sarahtowny@bigblueball.com (Sarah Townsend)
- …
Any other takers?
Oh, and Oreo, I put my name on an interest list with Google a while back, and just heard back from them yesterday.
