MemberI have a few buddies who do not show up in my buddy list even though they are online. And before you suggest it, no, I’m not blocked.
Has anyone else seen this problem?

Keymasterare you sure they do not have invisibility on? ’cause unlike real life, AIM supports invisibility. the “little eye” on your buddylist (on newer versions of aim) will allow you to be invisible or visible. make sure they do not have invisibility on (the eye will be closed).

MemberI’m assuming they’ve told you when they were online and this is how you know that they are in fact on and you are not blocked. Make sure that they are visible and you are on their buddy list and not blocked. Have you tried using a different SN to see if they show up on that list? If they still don’t show up on a different SN, try a reinstall or using a different program. I don’t know too much about fixing technical problems but it may help other members if you list what you are running and exactly what the problem is and what you have tried so far.

MemberThis is an old friend, so I know he didn’t block me. There’s no invisisbility either because I have one sn where I can see him online.
I’m running regular AIM with DeadAIM.

MemberYou’re either blocked, OR, your friend has the privacy settings to “allow only users on my buddylist”, which means your friend does NOT have you on their buddy list.
It’s one of the two, or your friend isn’t being honest with you, because AIM couldn’t make that kind of mistake. Is your friend using GAIM or MirandaIM? I know that GAIM had a problem with blocking a person, but then not being able to unblock…but that might be old news. It can always be fixed by using a traditional AIM client.

ParticipantOnce a screen name is on a certain number of buddy lists, it will not show online on any past the limit. Generally the limit is very high, but it’s a possibility that many others have added this person, and thus it is not showing you their status.

MemberPlus I added him on the sn that I can see him on later than when I added him on my real sn. So, a max out limit is not probable.
I don’t see why he would be dishonest with me. if he didnt want to talk, he would have blocked me on the new sn as well.

MemberHave you tried to contact him when it says he is offline (but you know he is online)?

Have you asked him to add your screen name to his buddylist? Ask him to confirm that, by actually adding you again…don’t accept a “yeah, you’re on my list” 😉 ask that he try adding you again.August 3, 2005 at 12:22 am #126042Melodeath
MemberWhen he is online and I msg him, it just says he in not available.
I will tell him to re-add me to his buddylist.
