ParticipantWelcome to BBB, notcreativename 🙂
Are you sure that your buddies do not have mobile forwarding enabled? I have noticed that it can take a little longer for mobile forwarding buddies to come up on my buddy list than people who are actually online (This may explain why your friends appear offline when you sign out and back in again).
Some more on IM forwarding:

MemberThanks for the welcome VvWolverinevV.
But no it’s not that, I thought it might be so I tried it with my other profile since I have one for work and one for personal and mobile forwarding is turned off on both accounts, I do use forwarding with one profile but I turned it off to try it. I can sign on with either one and it shows up on the other on a different computer and when I sign out of one the other one shows I’m still online and it’ll stay that way for hours and hours, even days until I sign out and sign back on and then it shows I’m offline. And It’s not my computer, it does the same thing on both profiles on my laptop with vista, my desktop with XP, my office comp with OSX using both ichat and aim and even on my cell. It just started happening about a week ago and I can’t figure out what’s going on.December 7, 2008 at 8:38 am #172352kin3sis
MemberHey, I have this problem too. I was looking around for a solution and stumbled upon this thread.
For me, it started happening about 3 weeks ago randomly and it hasn’t stopped since… and yes I agree it’s really annoying, especially since there was nothing I changed on my computer since it started happening so I can’t narrow down the issue. Except MAYBE AIM 6.9 Beta but the issue didn’t start until later on… which is weird
Sometimes I IM people but I realize they’re offline after they don’t respond, and I confirm my suspicions when I sign back off/on and see that they’re gone. While I’m online, occasionally (I have notifications of people who sign off turned on), I get like 15 people sign off simultaneously, and a flood of notifications pop up.
I also tried Digsby (a program that lets you access AIM accounts and more, similar to Trillian) to see if I could eliminate the problem, but the same thing happens; except NO ONE signs off, everyone who’s signed off just appears online on my buddy list.
If anyone had this problem and would like to share the solution, we’d appreciate it, thanks!

MemberI have the same problem with AIM 5.5,5.9 and 6.x.x.x series of AIM. I though maybe it was AIM having a problem with their servers, but this has been going on for the past month.
Mac users are having the same problems as well
Apple – Support – Discussions – Contacts appear online even after they …
This leads be to believe AIM has a problem with their servers and haven’t fix the problem yet. I find it hard to believe they are not aware of the problem.
