Does anyone know if there is any way to get a cellphone notification when a buddy signs in??? Either from PC-cellphone or any mobile messenger. This is possible with Sidekick for AOL I know but not for the Yahoo mobile messenger I have seen. Thanks!
From my own knowledge, there is no way of getting an alert when a buddy logs on, but…. Depending on which way you are logged on, you can check to see who is logged on when you want.
If you logged out from Yahoo! Messenger to your Mobile Device to get messages through text messages, you would have to Send a text to Yahoo (92466) with the word “Get” (yes this would count as a text message but you get a message back telling you who is on-line, and yes this isn’t very handy but it’s the only way).
If you logged on through your phone’s IM service (which also counts as text messages), the server is updated as soon as you look at your friend’s list on your phone. I find this way much more convienent as the conversation stays in one window, not like text messages which are different windows. Whenever you look at the main window with your friends it shows an On-line list and Off-line list and as soon as you look at it, it updates itself to show you who is currently on-line. Plus you can look at their status message by clicking View Info for anyone.
But as for an actual “beep” type of alerts as to when they come on-line is currently not available. The only option that comes close to this is if you log on through your cell phone’s IM function which most have the option of doing now. Hope this helps a bit.
Thanks for thorough reply. Just thought I had not figured out this buddy status mobile alert thus it is on the regular YIM) since it’s possible to get notifications/text on phone when someone is sending IMs.
