MemberMy friend is invisible, but showing online in Buddy Spy. How can I tell whether or not he is actually chatting/instant messaging someone? Buddy Spy always says “not in chat”, meaning he’s not in a chat room. Does the color or wording change if the person is in the middle of a chat session?

ParticipantFrom doing a bit of research I believe Buddy Spy only says if they are in a chat room, and will not tell you if they are chatting with another person.

MemberActually, Buddy Spy is ineffective against chat room scanning. Since Yahoo removed the /join command some months back, it’s caused Buddy Spy to not be able to scan if a user is in chats or not.
Buddy Spy will only work in the person is on your buddy list and it will only tell you if they’re online or not. That’s all. It will not be able to tell you if they’re in any conversations or chat rooms. It *may* be able to tell you if they’re on a webcam or not.
Also, Buddy Spy won’t work if the buddy is using a anti-boot protection like C-Mode.
Have a good evening/day. 🙂

MemberYTK Pro has a working user scanner (and it doesn’t require a bot). Buddy Spy needs a bot name to be able to scan. The downside to programs like Buddy Spy is, the bot has to be on the person’s buddy list you’re trying to scan, or else it’ll appear as offline.
Blame Yahoo. 🙂

ParticipantI would say congratulate yahoo! on it actually attempting to protect it’s users online privacy.
:p

MemberDemot I agree with you to a point… but oh how I miss the days of joining friends in rooms without having to pm them and ask where they are, then even trying to get in the room.
You’d think it would be easier to do what other programs have done, which is block the follow feature. Where each user would have the option to turn that off so they won’t be followed.
Wishful thinking I know. heheheh

I agree to a point lol
Venom, depending upon the users configuration depends on whether or not they can be picked up w/o the bot being on the list.
I havent been around to test this c-mode protection, but im sure it works. The process is very simple to block and even report whos scanning you.

Nope, it doesn’t. I know this for a fact. C-Mode tricks the Yahoo servers into thinking you’re offline. If you try to scan a C-Mode user, they’ll appear as offline.

Participantunsakred, its just sending the ymsg challenge string again after getting in a room, when yahoo server asks for a reply you don’t, then the server thinks your not logged in and stops pm’s coming to you.
in a nutshell lol
