They didn’t say anything of the sort that they were going to attempt to “hack you” etc. It’s not possible for two people to have the same IP address at the same time, or at all. (I’m not a big geek on IP’s, though there are moderators that can back me up on that..)
As for the Linux thing, if someone with half a brain on Windows scans for an IP would come up successful as well. The guy is probably one of those poor teenagers who believe they are hacking Gods because they can whip up some malicious code to boot you from Messenger.
I wouldn’t sweat it.. but if you wish to ensure your online safety, grab a free firewall like ZoneAlarm.

MemberBe aware, there are programs out there that are made specifially to steal your IP from AIM. I have seen them in use and they do work. The most recent public one has been patched, but it sent you a request to play a game, and apparently that makes some sort of a direct connection for a split second, and the program retrieved your IP wether you accepted the request or not. It has become very populer to steal IP’s and then port scan a victim and then attack them.
I have tested most of these programs, and might make a topic on the diffrent dangers of programs on AIM or what programs are out now and their abilities.
