can i use the TELNET to access the yahoo server for yahoo chat.
I don’t think Yahoo allows public Telnet access to their servers, and even if they did you would not be using the right protocol either.

thanx for the information.
Yahoo is now IRC? or did somebody make a typo?

you missed it. They are requesting information as to if you can access the yahoo servers from IRC.
I wish you could. It would cut down on the annoying fonts people use and kill the ads.

No, it wouldn’t cut down on the fonts as TelNet does nothing more than open up an active connection with a remote host. TelNet would show all the raw text formatting codes that Yahoo sends along.
Let’s say, for example, you are viewing a webpage.
In Internet Explorer you would see this:
But in TelNet you would see this:
This is because TelNet doesn’t do anything with the data it sends or recieves. Most programs add a frontend so you can just enter information and then the program will communicate with the server. TelNet lets you communicate with the server directly.
So, if you ask “Is it possible to do this and that with TelNet”, the answer is generally “Yes”, but you’ll have to know the language the server speaks and you’ll have to be able to speak this language very fast.
Now, stop trying to be Geeky and just use a Yahoo chat client. 😉
