OK Correcting you. I have had 2 PCs trashed, and I mean to the point of several friends that work on PCs as their JOB trying to fix them to no avail. Both had to be Formatted again. I have been online going on 10 years, I am not nieve, I dont click things etc *at all*.
Feel_the_rythem You are trying to undermine not just all members who have spoke of safety issues of IMing BUT our bossman Jeff! One thing your not understanding is that we dont mean only your PC can get hurt by not using IM safety. Children AND adults are tracked down and abused by someone they simply IM’d with!

MemberIf you could not get a virus via IM’s then Y! Tunnel would not have the PM blocking that it does. Think about it! And as for me… I really don’t appreciate others asking HOW to do things that are bad for others.

MemberIt is possible to get a virus or something else worse through a pm box with out clicking on anything since many services are a direct tcp connection to the user, PM being one of them. I have had this happen to me, not from Yahoo but elsewhere’s and also had my account cracked and files altered. My security had been bypassed many times or fooled without me knowing it until after the fact. Then again I had people there who didn’t want me on this particular chat program so that might have been the motivation to do what was done to me.

Memberif you dont have internet security, anyone can hack into your computer quite easily, and it doesnt have to be through a pm. if you have simple firewall protection, it will block anything that you do not alow. you cant get a virus from a simple pm, but someone can get your ip address and hack the you know what out of you. i have been using yahoo messenger for over 5 years, and been using firewall protection from day 1 and always upgraded and made sure i had up to date software. i have never had a problem with YIM.

MemberI agree, it is a highly recommended read. Yahoo saying something like this in an email is to cause less of a panic to their users. Places do not want to have people who do not have much knowledge on the matter worry about things like this and also for reasons of business.
As soon as newer client version of IM is made; usually a few days to a good week someone has it aced all ready.
Any form of messanger service can open one up to anything, all it takes is a socket, I have been through my share of expeirences, good and bad, and I have been witnessed to many things that would make your hair stand on end
Just be on the lookout and know who your dealing with when IM’ing and you should be fine. Keep your firewall and anti-Vs up to date also.
