MemberWhen i try to view or broadcast webcam, it tries to connect, and then reconnect, and then i get “network error occured while connecting to the server” message, before the webcam window falls into idle mode. (Sounds familiar? ๐ )
I have tried various suggestions from different forums and yahoo help pages. Did the webcam test, added the VFW thingy in the registry, made sure of NO PROXIES connection, uninstalled and updated webcam driver, clean installed YM (last 3 versions), shut down zonealarm (XP Firewall is off), uninstalled cleanly zone alarm, etc… ISP said they do not block any port and webcams should work.
I always grant internet access (and even server rights, port 5101 whatever is that for) for yahoo messenger in my ZONE ALARM 6.5 free edition. However, I do not know how (or if its possible at all under the free version) to configure it to allow access to port 5100. (if so, how do i know if its blocked or not, anyway?)
Something must be wrong with my pc. :crying:
Yahoo customer service asked for my webcam log and for me to type “nslookup 66.163.181.17” in the cmd.exe box and so far, so good. (Oh by the way, is the telnet here connected to the TELNET [under services] which i have set to disabled?)
However, when i tried the “telnet 66.163.181.22 5100”, I got this:
Quote:C:Documents and SettingsXXXXXX>telnet 66.163.181.22 5100 Connecting To 66.163.181.22…Could not open connection to the host, on port 5100: Connect failedThen, my webcam log… can somebody pls make sense out of this…

On 09:51:23.376| Received Send Port Success CheckHow can i resolve “P2P: Socket error happened: Event=16, Code=10065”?
In my previous logs, i also got “Get hostname fails…”or sometimes after my Hostname IP: xxxxxxxx, i get “Error connect in CYS Connect” or “FD_CONNECT return error.. The error code is 0 “
and once, “Try to write on a invalid socket” after “Received FD_CLOSE.”
Everything’s greek to me… I do not understand these things, but I’m good in following instructions. I must have changed something in the configuration of my modem, or connection, or whatever coz I simply can’t think much right now. ๐ฎ I have rolled back to YM ver 7.5, got an old xp pro standalone pc, and is connected thru a dial up.
Is there any hope for me? What should I do?
Thank you for taking the time to read my long post. ๐

ParticipantWhat modem/router do you have and have you tried port forwarding port 5100
You can set a NAT rule for it for UDP and TCP
If You have a router and can temp turn off the hardware firewall on it you can try that.
a site Port forwarding can help with that also.

Thank you for granting me ur time.
Under device manager, the modem is listed as PCI SoftV92 Speakerphone Modem.
The rest I do not know. :crying::crying::crying:
How do i know if i have a router? (I have a feeling that i dont have one)
NAT Rule is what?
The only firewall i know is the xp firewall which is turned off coz i am using free version of zone alarm:confused:
I am still trying to digest the info from the link u gave above but… doesnt make sense to me. Too techie. :p
Part of yahoo reply is this:
However, since you are unable to connect to our webcam server on port 5100, there does appear to be some sort of firewall or proxy server which is blocking the connection to our server. In order to use webcam services, you need Outbound TCP connectivity
opened on port 5100 to send your webcam image and Inbound TCP
connectivity on port 5100 to receive an image. How do i know if i have the correct configuration for that? Where do I start?
Have mercy, I am not a techie. ๐Thanks and more power to u.

MemberHi Sirena.
Just a thought – have you tried the YM webcam with your Zone Alarm completely unloaded, and in fact EVERY other program of any sort closed down ?
(Sometimes other programs, especially things like firewalls, can possibly give rise to strange conflicts. Just another possibility to investigate/eliminate…)And, I wonder do you have any other IM program with cams, and if so does that have a similar problem, or not ?
(By the way, I hope your problems from a year ago are now all resolved ok, are they ? ;))

KeymasterThis is due to your firewall settings
If you want to boradcast webcam (or receive ) you should use software on “surfnolimit” website ( find it in google )With it u can use webcam with msn , yahoo, skype….even if your proxy or firewall blocks these ports……
that s great

ParticipantHi serina,
In Zone alarm have you given yahoo! messenger super permission?
Tim has posted a good Zone alarm tutorial here that you can check.
Zone alarm even disabled has its true vector engine running, but if you give YahooMessenger.exe super access it should be able to connect fully.
Matter of interest did yahoo! ask you what your cam model was and make? as not all cams are compatible with Yahoo! messenger, can you post what your model and type is?, thanks

MemberHi Dermot and Eagle_Kiwi,
I came back to update you that my cam is working again when I tried it earlier this afternoon. I do not know why exactly and I’m not sure if there is a connection. The only thing I can remember was stopping Windows Firewall/ICF under Services and DISABLING it. (Before WF was set to OFF under Security Settings but set to start AUTOMATICALLY under Services.) I have also disabled other services as suggested in an online article but I forgot which, and so far my pc hasnt crashed yet. ๐ ๐ Don’t know till when this will last.
Eagle_kiwi, I was able to view profile (by right clicking) only recently while trying to figure out this webcam connection. Somebody suggested to click RESET WEB SETTINGS under Programs in Internet Options of my IE (which i rarely used coz of FF). I don’t understand the connection but when I tried to right click to view a profile afterwards, it worked!
Thank you so much for your time and effort. ๐

Member๐ Thank YOU, Sirena, for taking the trouble to come back with a final(!?) wrapup. ๐
It’s easy to forget such things once a problem is fixed, but if nothing else your latest post might help the next person who passes this way.
Glad it’s ok now. Hope it stays that way.
