MemberIs anyone aware of the reason my friends and I cannot show Merry Christmas as our Yahoo status message ?
We type the words in but it won’t show on others lists.
Weird huh.

MemberHi Sashaa, there should be no reason you/or your friends cannot put Merry Christmas in your status, just for my own curiousity I tried this myself, and it worked and my friends could see the status message and I could see theirs.
Perhaps you might want to check with your friends that they do not have their stealth settings set to appear offline to you and vice versa.
Just my two cents..
Merry Christmas:)December 26, 2006 at 5:03 pm #155977Nessa
ParticipantOoo that is weird. I tried it as well and it shows up on the top of my list saying i changed it, but since i have myself added on my list, i couldn’t see the status change (meaning no one on my friends list could see it as well).
Same goes for Happy New Year. 😮
Have no idea why it does this…..
Oh and it isn’t stealth settings, since i can see any other status i change it to while testing! 🙂

Memberwow that is strange ..
heres a capture i took earlier
having said that I used an ID on yahelite to display the status, but I dont think thats relevant because messenger still shows my yahelites ID’s status.

ParticipantWell here are some screenshots of my testing.
As you can see the only one’s that refused to work were “Happy New Year” and “Merry Christmas” – The word “New Year” works alone, and to show it’s not my messenger messing up, you can see that my “Busy” status works, so it must be a Yahoo! thing.
It’s scared of the holidays! 😛

MemberWell obviously it isn’t a stealth settings issue so I retract my earlier post, and I’m not trying to disprove anybody when the facts are staring me in the face, but at the same time I can’t really explain why its working for me and not for you,but this is yahoo after all and anything is possible really. 🙂

MemberMy friends in USA told me that it didnt work for some Halloween status messages either.
Edit: It may work through Yahelite, but no one I know has got it to work through Yahoo Messenger yet.

KeymasterThis is really strange. Maybe it’s an anti-holiday conspiracy? :p

Keymasterhmmm it does not work I added my alias ID and my main ID to my friends list.
I put Merry Christmas and Happy new year and was unable to see it.December 29, 2006 at 12:31 am #155970Sashaa

MemberYahoo have replied to me with a ‘solution’. I have not tested it but for those interested, here it is.
“Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Messenger.
We are truly sorry to know that you are unable to use (‘Merry Christmas’ or ‘Happy New Year’ as your status messages.
Sashaa, in order to resolve your issue, you must manually delete the “Messenger” directory on your C: drive (default installation location), then reinstall the Yahoo! Messenger application. “
They then go into step by step instructions for doing the above and finish by saying,
“Again Sashaa, if this doesn’t resolve your problem, please just reply to this email and tell us that a complete uninstall and reinstall of the software has not resolved your issue. We’ll be happy to look into the problem for you.
Thank you again for contacting Yahoo! Customer Care.”
I hope that this enlightens and helps others. :p
Cheers

MemberI tried this on a newly imaged laptop with build 209 just installed… same deal as all the other PCs I tried it on.
That reply you got was probably just a clueless shot in the dark from a tech hoping a reinstall would fix it.;)
Now that the holiday is over I have no issue setting “Happy New Year” or “Merry Christmas”. Is that the same for you now?

MemberWeird, for some reason I can set both statuses perfectly and see them (I have myself added to my own buddy list).

ParticipantYeah it works now for me too. Very weird.
