Memberhey I am having trouble viewing other people’s custom emoticons in MSN messenger 6.2 and it didnt work in my MSN 6.0 and 6.0 When people post thier custom emoticons they always come up as blank. I have view custom emoticons turned on. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and tried about everything else and I still get blank messages when people post custom emoticons even though I still have the option of viewing custom emoticons turned on even though everyone else can view them. how do I fix this problem? it is getting annoying. thanks for your help. 😀

ParticipantYou need to wait for these emoticons to download to your computer. Even though their only 19×19, the still take a few seconds, or sometimes several. Your best bet is just to wait a bit.

Memberi mean when I talk to them all that comes out is (*) or (8) also when it pops up that they sign in and yesterday that I installed the new MSN 6.2 it worked but then I installed MSN plus and it just stopped. do you think that maybe its msnplus?
April 28, 2004 at 12:48 am #45976detn8r
Participant(*) and (8) are default emoticons. Are you saying you do not see them in nicknames, or in conversations? If you have custom names enabled on MSN Messenger, you will not see any emoticons in nicknames. Also, custom emoticons will not be seen in nicknames msgplus installed or not.

ParticipantOK. So, let me understand clearly. It’s in nicknames you do not see emoticons?
1) You will not see CUSTOM EMOTICONS in nicknames
2) You will not see ANY EMOTICONS in nicknames if you have Messenger Plus! set to custom namesApril 28, 2004 at 1:01 am #45990estelita
Memberso its MSN plus then? so what can I do

MemberIf you open MSN messenger, go to tools–>options–>messages, and under ‘message text’ you will see somethings about emoticons. Just make sure both boxes are checked and it should work.

ParticipantHuRRiCaNe22491, have you read the above posts clearly? They have made it clear to me they have done what you have suggested.
In your Messenger Plus preferences, select Custom Names, and make sure there is no check in the box. (or square in the box)April 28, 2004 at 1:14 am #45986estelita
Memberthanks but none of them worked for me. I guess its going to have to stay that way

MemberIf you want to use custom names you have to forgo custom emoticons with the names. You need to make sure custom names isn’t checked or has a gray checkmark in the Plus options.
