I have a mixed network of Mac and Windows computers, and have been using Apple’s iChat AV to IM and video chat with clients overseas.
However, with iChat AV I’ve been unable to video chat with AIM 5.5 users (they’re supposed to be compatible). I recently installed AIM 5.5 (both the UK beta and US current versions) on a couple of Windows XP computers and I can’t video chat from those to iChat AV users or other AIM users.
The computers in the network are connected to the internet using a Netgear DG834 router. It’s UPnP compliant so I shouldn’t need to manually open any ports. I did try opening and forwarding the ports in the Apple documentation, and those in the AIM help pages but it hasn’t made any difference. I’ve also tried putting computers in the DMZ etc and that hasn’t helped either.
Anyone else had this problem, maybe solved it??
Regards
Dave
I’m having the exact same problem here. Was there ever a solution found?
Thanks,
Alberto.
Welcome to both of you.
Thank you for providing all the information you have. Obviously you have gone through great lengths to research this before posting. I hope someone here can help. I’m at a loss. Sorry.. but just cause I’m at a loss doesn’t mean I’ll stop hunting for an answer for both of you.
Thank you again.
I hear that Trillian pro does the trick, but I’ve only used basic so I can’t verify it.
Well, it does on Windows.(Pretty nicely actually) However, not on Mac, since Trillian ONLY runs on Windows systems. Unless you got a Virtual Machine, heh Trillian won’t do you much good on Mac.
