MemberI’ve been having a constant problem with entering chat via Yahoo Messenger (5.6) for the last 3 weeks. It crashes on entering chat or changing chat rooms, always within about 5 minutes of me first entering chat. If I’m in chat, there is no problem with Messenger, no crashes.
The error is usually MSVCRT.dll causing an invalid page error, occasionally its Kernel32.dll . I never had this constant problem until about 2-3 weeks ago, up until then no major issues at all with Messenger 5.6, apart from the odd crash, since I downloaded it months ago.
I’ve taken the following actions so far but without success:
Unistall (including eliminating registry entries) and redownload of Messenger 5.6
Updating versions of MSVCRT.dll
Removal of a couple of recently downloaded programmes (including eliminating registry entries) that may have been the cause of a clash.
Updating of sun java, which also uses msvcrt.dll
Run Spybot, Adaware etc, and cleared spyware, the anti virus is always on and checks have been run.
I’ve tried the alternative chat clients yet none of them seem to connect for me, not one of them.
Does anyone have any idea what may be behind all the trouble?
Thanks in advance
NJ

Memberhmm could you be getting booted out of chat?
you might report the problem to yahoo also in case it is a messenger problem also….if yahoo dont know what the probs are in beta thay cant try to fix them in the next build…
chat clients I use YahELite and havent had any probs with it connecting.. you can change the protocol on it also witch might be why it dose not connect for you.. I use ychat on it

MemberTried downloading yahelite twice in the last year, and it failed miserably to connect.
On the boot idea, the crash message comes when i’m changing from one room to another. Is it possible that I’ve got bootcode located on my hard disk somewhere? If so, how can I scan for it and locate it? Neither AVG or Spybot, which I run, can find it I assume.
Tried downloading messenger beta to see if it avoided my current problems with v5.6…it just won’t download off the yahoo site. Is there an alternative download location somewhere?

MemberThanks so far, FYI, here is the error message. I don’t think its messenger itself, I believe its a wider error somewhere.

MemberThanks Gaz, I(‘ve already replaced all incidences of the offending msvcrt.dll on my sdystem with a new version with one exception so far, thats the msvcrt.dll in my windows directory becvause it wont let me, i’ll have to launch DOS(I have others in windows/system and in a couple of programs). The error just re-occurs in messenger as before.
Interestingly I installed ytunnel Basic to see if I was being boot coded out, and the same problem occurs and its ytunnel that crashes with the following, similar error.
YTUNNELBASIC caused an invalid page fault in
module MSVCRT.DLL at 015f:7801020b.If its bootcode, its on my computer somewhere, otherwise I have no idea whats causing it. I’m getting rather annoyed by it. Any fresh ideas out there?
