Hello.
Yesterday while using WLM (2009 version) all my contacts photo display pictures disappeared and I cannot for the life of me figure out why, nor can I find a solution to fixing it. I googled it and only found that other people having the same problem were using zonealarm, but I don’t, so not allot of help to me.
I upgraded to WLM 2011 and that fixed it hoorah!, but with the 2011 version of WLM I can only sign in 1 out 10 times successfully, even then booted off within 30 seconds and unable to sign in again because the service is unavailable, not to mention missing pixels all over the screen.
I soon go frustrated with that, uninstalled it and all of the components etc that go with it. Before reinstalling 2009 I have deleted all caches, temp files and anything else with CCleaner, rebooted and reinstalled. The only thing I did yesterday different was install the freeware nero-lite CD burner, I thought that may have been the cause and uninstalled it, again deleting temp files and using CCleaner to remove everything etc before using WLM again, no luck 🙁
I’ve gone through all the settings on WLM and nothing has changed. I’m at a loss now and would appreciate any help on getting this sorted out.
Before I forget, the other thing that has changed, the option to show webcam only has gone, I can still use it, but only as video call :confused:

I do know that there were issues in the last few days that seem to be server side and have nothing to do with the software on the machine. I’m not sure if they are fully resolved at this point or not. When things go wrong and you’ve not made any changes to your machine – it’s often wise to wait and see if things clear up. But as you said, you did install some new software – and that can make it more difficult to pin down why a problem occurred.
As to the contact pictures. Now that you have cleaned your caches, images will only reappear as your contacts sign on while you are logged in. The caches on your local machine store the pictures of your contacts and when you uninstall and clean up you have removed them. Be patient, as contacts come and go they should start to reappear.
In the 2009 version of WLM show webcam was removed in the last stable release. It is also not available in the 2011 version. Video call is what is available at this time. You can always mute your microphone if you don’t want to broadcast sound.
When you say you were unable to connect successfully to WLM 2011 were you getting an error code? Did you check to ensure the date and time on your computer (and router) are correct? You could also try the login troubleshooting tips found here.
I don’t know why there were missing pixels – I’ve not heard of that problem before. And switching back to 2011 now, since you did the uninstall and clean up, will not make the display pictures come back any faster – so it’s just a matter of whether or not you wish to try it again or you want to stick with 2009.
