MemberAre we allowed to delete or hide replies to support threads that offer incomplete or incorrect information, which we will repost as a reply of our own with more accurate and complete information?

ParticipantI’d be really careful about that, some people could be quite offended if you remove their post and post your own information. I think this is the type of thing that would be handled by situation; If someone posts simply “use reshack to do it” (Not really an answer that someone can follow) I’d consider it acceptable to delete/hide their reply. But if someone put some effort into it, I don’t think it’d be wise to insult them by posting your own ‘better’ one in place of theirs.
Just my take on it.

ParticipantIt’s definately something that could be taken as an offense…really, even if the answer was wrong, I wouldn’t see a point in going and deleting or hiding it as much as just putting your own reply that it’s incorrect and what the proper answer is…or at most putting an edit line in theirs saying as much, in breif, then posting a reply of your own that expands on the right answer. Hey, if they’re that worried about it, they’ll delete their own message.
As for three word replies, I would say that all that would be needed here is a careful reminder that that is not a helpful response either in an edit tag, a PM or in your own reply, and to expand on it yourself if it hasn’t already been answered. And really, only if they’re a repeat offender, to start hiding and such, write them a PM about it, things of that nature. I think it’s a touchy subject to step on, and really, if they’re making useless three word posts, they should have the opportunity to be notified about it and have a chance to correct it or delete it themselves.
I just don’t think it would be wise to just up and delete or hide a persons response without at least notifying them as to why…especially if you repost it as your own. At least give them a “quoted from” box and then expand on it if you get rid of it *shrug*
Heh, but what do I know *wink*

KeymasterRather than delete the reply, add your reply and nicely correct the other person.
“That’s not exactly correct, username… What you really need to do is… [insert correct explanation here]… “
