MemberWhen I try to direct connect the connection can not be established. I have already changed the firewall to the “outgoing” one. What else can I do to get it to connect?

MemberThat’s true. I have the exact same problem on AIM. Sometimes it gives me the message that the firewalls are uncompatible or something to that effect, and the only way i’ve been able to fix that, would be to lower the firewall, which i actually haven’t tried. i typically just use e-mail in that case.
Although, there is one thing i would like to know. Why is it that the direct connection works with some people, while with other people, it doesn’t work? I’d appreciate it if someone left a comment on this.

ParticipantEven though I’m the DMZ host on my Network, I still usually can’t connect if I try to connect, but if the other person tries (they have AOL) it connects almost instantly. But my other friend (on the same ISP (Cox.Net, and with a router (as the DMZ host))) can’t connect either way, we have to use NetMeeting.

MemberI am having the same problem. It will let other people Direct Connect with me, but I can’t do it. It also won’t let people send me files. 🙁
First though, what is a router? Sorry, I don’t know much about computers….
Is there any way I can just take the firewall off of AIM? It is really messing up things. If so please tell me how!

well, it shouldn’t. as long as it’s connected, the length of the cable shouldn’t make any difference, and it would have to be connected for you to be connected to the internet and such.
