ParticipantAnyone know how to do this? I keep getting a pop up asking me to install the new AIM 6.9 however I don’t want to and just want to stay with the 6.0 I’ve been using…any way to get rid of this?

ParticipantHi, 7Kings, and welcome to BBB 🙂 This was a hot topic when AIM 6 was still called AIM Triton, and one of our members came up with a solution:

As always, when deleting or modifying application files, it is a good idea to backup those files first. For example, in this case, I would simply rename stic.dll to stic.dll.bak rather than deleting it. Please let us know if this solution works for you. Thanks!

MemberYes, let us know. If that doesn’t work, I can look into what address is used to perform the upgrade check; maybe adding it to the HOSTS file will stop it. However, when you sign on, in addition to your name and password being sent, whatever version you’re using is sent to the server anyway (among other things I’m not aware of), so my idea may not work.

MemberHi, Just wanted to write to tell you what worked for me. I, too, researched online how to rid my system of the updater but could not find anything to keep it from returning over and over. Decided to take things into my own hands and at least try to destroy it.
I went to Program files/Aim6 and changed ‘anotify.exe’ to ‘anotify.ex1’ and have not had that annoying update pop up since. Hope this helps others as it was becoming most irritating to be either forced to update or forced to continually be pestered with the update notification.
Good luck!

ParticipantChanging stic.dll to stic.dll.bak is successful BUT it also disallowed me from changing any settings. So if I do this and then try and say, check the box which says “buddy list window can be docked…” and try and apply the change I get an error.
Removing the anotify.exe file had no effect.
