Synopsis of the movie: In District 9, South Africa has become a haven for refugees from outer space.
It’s not your usual alien vs humans movie (bang bang america saves the world again kind of movie). It’s an entirely unique take on it. One I found quite refreshing. While it does contain action sequences, I found the movie to be completely driven by its plot and not just the eyecandy cgi (unlike the mess of metal that was transformers 2). The characters grow on you, you hate them, you love them, and you hate them again. For those looking for a break from the typical hollywood action movies out this year, I highly recommend District 9, unless you are very squeamish (a bit gory). Not one for the lil ones.
I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews. It seems like people either love it or hate it.
The premise (apartheid?) sounds intriguing, especially given the locale. I haven’t been out to the theater in ages, but I’ll definitely add this to my Netflix queue. Unless Hell freezes over or pigs fly, in which case, I’ll see it in the theater. 😉
