I have downloaded and installed Yahoo Messenger 7.0. I have a nice collection of skins for all seasons that worked with 6.0 but not 7.0. I’ve moved them to c:/ProgramFiles/Yahoo/shared/graphics but 7.0 doesn’t recognize them. Nothing happens when I click on “change skin” from the main Messenger menu or in Messenger Preferences. The only ones it recognizes are the skins available with the program, which were M&Ms and 2 others.

The 6.0 skins worked with 7.0 beta even thou some images were missing so I guess they might not work with the final 7 and needed to be update.Notice that The files for the skins are located at this folder c:program filesyahoo!SharedGraphics This folder may change depending on installation folder and locale settings.
The 6.0 skins all work with the final version of 7, double check to make sure that the skins are in the correct folder one more time, make sure there isn’t an extra folder inside another folder or anything like that. If it looks ok, try downloading another skin and see if it works.
When unzipping skins. Can I just unzip them to the C: and it will know where it wants to go? For yahoo skins?
No, you have to unzip the skin to C:Program FilesYahoo!SharedGraphics in order for them to work. Or, depending on where you get the skin, you could download the exe file that will install the skin to the correct location automatically. Some sites offer skins in exe format, most only offer them in zip format.
Download Yahoo! Messenger Plus and use YBitSkin to install yours skins (Zip or YSZ files)… YBitSkin check and fix all issue ;o)
Thanks for answering my question (way back in Oct.05) about whether Yahoo 6.0 skins work in 7.0. I can download them and they work in 7.0, but the ones I saved on disk won’t work – I placed the skin folder in C:program filesYahoo!SharedGraphics, and I can see it there, but when I go to change skin, it’s not in the dropdown box. What am I doing wrong? Thanks again.
Check in the folders for the skins that don’t work… Inside your graphics folder, you should have the folders for each skin, and inside the folders for the skins should be the image files etc, not any other folders. Check out the bottom of this page for how it should look. If there are any other folders in there anywhere, it will not detect the skins.
