KeymasterDo you have a webcam?

MemberI have a webcam, but don’t use it much. I’d rather have a good digital camera (2.3 megapixel or better). Some of them also can be used as webcams.

KeymasterEven better! I’ve got a digital video cam, two web cams, but no digital camera. It’s on my wish list, but hasn’t floated to the top of my list of things-to-spend-money-on.

MemberI have a web cam but I don’t bother using it. When I was on paltalk I used the cam a lot but after I had issues with my IP being sniffed and having my firewall nailing attacks from certian people I ended using a cam altogether.
There is, or was, a program that sniffed incoming packets from a users web cam, Program is a 300KB file written in VB and I checked into it to see how this thing worked. The user will appear to have the cam operating and the person using the program will appear that they have their cam aimed at their video screen when actually they really aren’t. With permission by a couple of good friends I was able to test this program out, even behind firewalls the IP’s were gathered from the use of this program with no hesitation at all.
Call me paranoid but I prefer to keep as less ports opened as possible and I monitor frequently when I’m on Yahoo, left Paltalk two months ago. I’m sort of glad that one has to ask permission to view a cam, although I don’t know if this particular cam program can bypass this permisson but I do know that on paltalk if you blocked permission to selected users to view your cam you would more than likely get bounced out of the room by a room admin.
I’m in no way discouraging anyone to use their cams. Just have a good firewall installed and for the most part you should be all right.

MemberI have an AIPTEK ($30 at Wal-Mart) – had to do the Registry/VFW thing.
I work a lot – it lets the family check in on me.
They tell me to go home when I’m in “Flowers for Algernon” mode.
