ParticipantWell, do you get right into the play this time of year? Do you totally deck your house out in lights, decorations, or have a mad setup outside? How about your tree? How sexy does it look?
Give us a taste! Show it all off!

MemberYeah I have Holiday Spirit…

Our house, just some Icicle Lights…But my dad’s verrry picky about them.
Our Tree, it’s Fiber Optic (ooh…), that’s what the colored curves are you see, it rotates colors, it’s pretty hypnotic to watch…And you can’t beat Fiber Optic, I mean, come on… 🙂We also have various holiday knick knacks scattered around the house…But it’s the spirit that couns, right? 😉

KeymasterYes and no. The Hester Abode:
Still haven’t done much Christmas shopping, but I have a pretty good idea what I plan on giving.
If I get a chance, I’ll post some pictures of the house about a block away. This guy puts up over 30,000 lights, all computer-controlled and syncronized to music. There is a 9-minute “show” which is broadcast to passing cars on the FM frequency. It’s really amazing.

my mom has a theme that she likes to decorate the entire house in. she likes a blue and white snowman theme. it’s pretty exciting.

MemberI also do the blue and white snowman theme but this year I just can’t seem to get in the spirit. I work in retail and see it all day long so it’s the last thing I want to think about when I get home. I have bought a few presents and have a few ideas for a few more but it’s way less organized than past years. Hopefully I’ll get more in the spirit as the holidays get closer. It’s been kind of a hectic year so maybe that’s my problem. But to those in the holiday spirits…Happy Holidays!

Participant*cough* Ehm, my mom insists on getting a real tree because it smells yummy. We get a tree for my siblings and then mom and I go and get a yule log for us later in the month when most of the trees are gone in the yards and the little stumps they cut off the trees are there and we take those, since people don’t actually sell Yule Logs around here. Damn you, you stupid overbearing christian town!! *beats Rochester with a stick*
We don’t do a lot of that…decorating stuff, but my neighbors are frighteningly into it. I’ll have to snap a picture sometime and show off my tree and Yule Log when we get them. *could dig out her old log but it’s packed away somewhere*
OH! One thing we do do though is make candy and stuff. Peanutbutter and chocolate acorns and cookies and and…all sorts of crazy stuff *drool*December 11, 2004 at 4:08 am #108084gossipingrae
Memberi had a deal with my mother. she said that once I graduated high school, she would get a fake tree, because, with a real one, my mom is always the one vacuuming up the pine needles and watering it, etc. sooo now that i’m graduated, we have a fake fiberoptic one. once I get my own place though, when I graduate college, i’ll get a real tree, because, indeed…they do smell yummy.
PS: rabid, if you wanna make the house really smell good, cut off some of the branches from the bottom of the tree (where it is less noticeable) and make a wreath. smells good and looks nice too. my mom used to do that when we had a real tree. she is fancy with that kind of stuff…she has a thing for horticulture.

MemberWe had a proper tree. It was pretty big, we couldnt even put the star on top cause the tip hit the roof. But alas, we got tired of lugging it inside every year and got a much smaller, fake one. I was sad then but now I don’t really care.
We don’t have anything outside, no one does that around here, but our tree is vasable from the street through the window and we do have a reef hanging on the door and some small ornamants on the table outisde on the verandah.
I don’t really see the point of having lots of junk with flashing lights and stuff but it would look cool, just not worth storing it somewhere for the other 11 months of the year. Has anyone read that book Skipping Christmas? mr Krank sure had a damn good point but I wouldnt want to skip christmas.

ParticipantRae, yeah it’s great fun to do stuff like that. My mom also uses them to make dream catchers when it’s too cold to go out and get dogwood branches off our trees *shiver* Speaking of cold…
But yeah, they do smell just heavenly!! Mom hangs then all over and saves the needles for burning with indian sweet grass…*drool* Oh gosh that smells great. Have any of you ever smelled sweet grass? It’s a holy kind of grass from the native american point of view and REALLY hard to get a hold of. I mean, they say that if you sell it, it’s uber bad karma. My mom got three little plants as a gift and now she harvests it in heaps all year round. It’s kind of funny to see a big ol’ pot of grass in your house, but when you cut and burn it *drool* it smells so good! Throw in some pine needles and it’s unspeakable.
As for real trees…heheh, we have a tape of when my brothers still lived here at home…and that year the tree wouldn’t fit in the stand, so my brother Arlo went out into the porch and started hacking away at it with a machette! You have to understand…my brother Arlo at this time wore big black glasses, had an ornament hanging from each side, blond dred locks that stuck straight up and he was wearing a kilt. Don’t ask why, but it was hillerious!

MemberWell folks, the tree has been sawed from its post, bundled into a torcherous plastic net, brutally thrown apon the bed of a pickup, wrecklessly driven to the Prow abode, carelessly forced through the back door and placed apon an evil plastic stand filled with water dirtier than the mind can imagine. In short, we got a tree, and it’s ready for pictures. I’ll get them soon.
The house, however, is a work in progress. We have some lights below the gutters, but when the rest go up, there will be so much light that WSDOT will have to close up 43rd Drive in fear that a driver will be blinded by the extreme brightness and crash into a street lamp. *evil cackle* You just wait…

ParticipantWe have just regualar old fashioned colored big bulb lights and an inflatable Frosty the Smowman..it is really Frosty from the cartoon, not those rip off snowmen 😛
We have our tree, but are waiting for finals to cease until we decorate it.
I will edit this post with a picture when I take one 😉
