MemberIs it just that people don’t wanna talk about the mother of all chat clients, or does anyone even use IRC? I’d think that with such an elite group of chatters there would be tons of folks who use it, considering it is superior to all others :p . If there are people here, lets start talking if not then I’d suggest that all of you go out and get yourself an IRC program (thats right you can choose from a ton…infinite options 😀 ) and start chatting. A good server for kids is irc.kidsworld.org, if your an adult drop by some Dalnet or Efnet server or come to scriptworld.ath.cx which is run by a friend and I. For those extremely lazy people out there I’ll give a few different IRC programs that you can download. For windows users, the gods of all IRC programs is mIRC. This is my favorite, even out of all the linux programs I have used because it has a great interface (A windows program better than any linux program….whoa something must be wrong here), and once you get a little more into the whole IRC thing, you can use its awsome scripting language which provides an easy way to make just about anything associated with chatting (and even some things that aren’t like mp3 players). For linux users, I’d suggest either xchat or bitchx. They are both good, if I had to choose I think I’d choose bitchx over xchat, but either one will do. Also, if you really want to, you could download a windows emulator for linux and run mIRC on it, the emulator I use is wine but I dont really like it because it is slow and it has bad days. :p If anyone finds another windows emulator that is better than wine, give me a ring cause I’m to lazy to go and find another since I only use mine every once in a while.

MemberI use IRC once in a while. I use to use it a lot when I was really into gaming, used to spend more than 8 hours a day on the irc.gamesnet.net server chatting away and programming bots… *sigh* the good old days…

Memberi still use IRC from time to time, but it can be annoying. The big public ones are populated by MANY strange people (even if they are in fact a minority, they’re a very “expressive” one!) which gets annoying if you venture into any of the larger public channels, and sometimes getting on to an available server can be a challenge (i.e. DalNet). the smaller, more specialized private ones can have their own “unique” issues (never ever ever ever ever accept file transfers unless it’s from your wife or direct blood relative and they are sitting at a machine within eyeball range and they’ve verbally confirmed to you it’s them sending you the file – and if you’ve ever done ANYthing that they could be pissed about, well, think twice even in that case! but then, that’s a good SOP for accepting ANY file transfer on any public messaging system!). still, it’s a good way to hook up with people, and you can sometimes find people in the same places years after you first met them. Maybe someday there’ll be secure IM networks structured similar to that… ;o)

MemberI use IRC a lot, Mostly the Undernet Server, I used to be an IRCop before they re-coded cservice. I mainly stick to local channels, don’t really reach out into the world of IRC strangers 🙂

MemberI use IRC everyday. I’m usually on efnet, gamesnet, or zirc. Mainly I use it for file sharing and to play counter-strike with my friends (using the HLIT plug in). When I was in highschool in the early ’90s I used IRC all the time just to chat. Then I stopped using it for a few years until about three years ago. It’s amazing how much your forget in terms of commands and options–makes you feel like a n00b all over again.

MemberI had a chat that was almost like IRC somewhat. It was called nuzzley p2p plus chat. It was a file sharing program for vb and .net programmers to trade information to one another. You can have shared directories for source code, programs, etc. The chatting wasn’t as advanced like true IRC but it appeared to be based on the same prinicple.
I didn’t really stay there too long. It seemed that vb5 and 6 people didn’t really exist or belong there and that VB’ers are like the slime of the earth and the .net was the IN thing. I had asked a question in one room, out of a couple of the rooms I visited there, to see how many people were into to VB 6 and , lol, I swear people were on me like flies to you know what. Saying stuff like, “get with it man vb 6 is old, get with .net man, you don’t know what real power is like — get with the program” yeah, ok, really cool. Should have asked if any of them ever tried assembler, lol, they probably would have went through the roof then, now that is a real man’s language 🙂
Get with the program, lol

Memberlol…go RustedTight, I’m not crazy enough to try assembler. I’d rather just stick with perl and other scripting languages. C too (not yet though!). :p
