MemberI don’t know if anyone has already asked this…But what is the super mode for the webcams? It never works for me, even when I’m only viewing one person and both of us have the same firewall… The only time I have been able to use the super mode was when I viewed my own webcam, and that was only to see if it worked for myself…Any ideas on how to get it to work?:confused::confused:

MemberI’m not sure if there are any other requirements but one condition for using super mode is that both the cam viewer and the person being viewed must have a high speed connection (cable or DSL) for super mode to operate. Perhaps others here can elaborate on this a little.

KeymasterYeah, I had the same problem. Both parties MUST have a broadband connection (cable or DSL, usually). It ONLY works between two people (you can’t share with more than one person, or it will automatically switch to “normal” mode). And you cannot be behind a firewall (at least, that’s the only way I’ve been able to get it to work). In fact, I had to connect my DSL modem directly to my PC to get it to work; I couldn’t connect through my router no matter what ports I opened up.
Finally, I got it working…
…and I was underwhelmed. The frame rate was only marginally better than the normal mode. You’re supposed to get up to 15 fps, but the most I got was 4-5 fps (normal mode provides about 1 fps).
For me, Super Webcam mode just wasn’t very super. It certainly wasn’t worth the hassles I had to go through to set it up. Sure, if I only had one computer at home and didn’t need to share an Internet connection, I’d probably use it more often, but that’s not the case.
The best frame rates I’ve gotten are with Logitech’s free IM Video Companion for AIM and MSN Messenger. It works with pretty much any webcam (not just Logitechs), it works through my router, and it provides good frame rates.

MemberThank you guys so much. The only thing is that, I got rid of the firewall AND I already have a cable modem, and all of my friends do to. I don’t know what else to do. It still only works when I view myself…[8(]

Participantare you running WinXP and have the personal firewall enabled?
on a side note, super mode never worked for me behind a linksys router, but works great behind my linux box acting as a router.April 25, 2003 at 3:49 pm #96910QtKiTTiE7302
MemberNope. I got windows 98…Lol. Still haven’t updated it yet. Not enough time to do it. And I dont have a firewall. We got rid of it. I don’t know what else to do to get the stupid thing to work…Lol. I give up on it :(:(:(

MemberIve gotten super mode to work twice, but like jeff said i saw nothing at all different about it except for one thing. My friend had a picture on the wall that is always blurry and it wasnt blurry now. Oooooooooooooooooo wow yippee hurray yay, just what i wanted to see better. I dont see anything very good about. When it does work. I though got it to work through an linksys router the two times, dont know how though.

MemberOk, I got it to work between me and someone overseas, from work, I am not sure what kind of security system we have here, there are not firewalls whatsoever, they just block some programs that take too much band, like morpheus and kazaa and things like that, but messengers don’t show any problem…not sure how they are so selective as I don’t know about networking.
If it is easy to get, then take it but don’t really waste your time looking for a solution, cause the time is not worth it, try logithech IM companion, is faster than any other.
