MemberHmmm light and simple.
Dont have anyone online at the moment so dont know how the IM part works.
Had some trouble minimizing and closing the main window.
Only 2 status (Available and Busy).
There is no nick changing scene but you can have a custom status.
We can switch between IM friend list and gmail contact list very easily.
There is no option to avoid seeing the main window on startup (It doesnt minimize to tray on startup rather starts up normally which is annoying).
‘Open Inbox’ does not open the mailbox for me.August 24, 2005 at 6:00 am #128420Eagle_Kiwi
MemberI’m “eaglekiwi” (@gmail.com) on GoogleTalk.
You’re welcome to catch me on it for a test, but please, ONLY if you have a MIC, for a voice chat.
LATER:- CANCEL THAT! I’ve tried it, incredibly unimpressed, and won’t be using it again, for a year or two at least.

MemberHMmmm…… ok, I admit I had my GoogleTalk minimised…. but I kinda expect SOME sort of alert in such cases, but there was none.
Anyway, I’ve now accepted, and C U online in GT – but despite IM’ing you (AND CALLing you) there, I get no response.
Gee, not a good start for us – and mildly cumbersome having to use BBB public posts as a “backup”

ParticipantWell both of us (EagleKiwi and Me) had thought that it would take time for taking our attention, as the features are so basic, Eagle recomends it would take 2 or 3 years for now to fully get something fantastic but I think things will change with in a few months.
Edit
Help page not found, error 404 see the picture.

MemberOk, ok, now we HAVE hooked up ok.
“Light and simple” – I’d certainly agree with THAT, Hasan, but.. I’m sorry, it’s just too INCREDIBLY light and simple for me.
There must be 100 programs out there that offer just basic 1-on-1 text IM’ing – this has NO “extra features” at all, as far as I can see.
Perhaps a handy “IM” adjunct to those who use GMail, but still, light years behind any of the Big 4 – I shall come back in a couple of years and see what progress Mr GoogleTalk might have made. 🙁

ParticipantI cannot connect? I get account locked?! I put in ShadowdogMU@gmail.com for my user name, and then I put in my password, and it says account locked, please go to the services page to unlock (in a pop-up generic error box). So I go there type in my password and a little security code thing, and it still won’t let me connect?!

Participanti’d love to get in on all the fun, but: as i mentioned in the other thread about whether or not we’d use GT…. i just dont see the need for yet another network at the moment. sure right now we’re all putting each other on our lists, but i’ve already got a good few of you on my lists through either AIM, MSN, or Yahoo (through Trillian). and since I use Trillian Basic, i dont have a jabber plugin, so i’d need to get another client. well that defeats the whole purpose of me getting trillian in the first place.
so i guess i’ll just have to wait.

ParticipantWell ok fine. after some coercing on IRC, and detn8r sending me an invite, i took the plunge and got it. (i’m already online on 4 networks… aim, msn, yahoo, and irc, but of course i need to add another?) meh, it looks alright, nice and simple, i like the notifications, but that could get annoying in any kind of dedicated intense conversation unless you manually disable them.
i’m still sticking by my original statement that i’m not really planning on using this much if at all yet. i’m gonna wait for them to refine it some before i try to use it on any kind of regular basis. however, if it pleases you to add me and wait for me to grace you with my online presence, it’s thenrich (at gmail, obviously) -
