Due out before Christmas, Microsoft has revamped the evergrowing Hotmail, email service.
Neowin representitives got the chance to check it out, and this is what they had to say:
The interface is very similar to the existing Hotmail which most users use today. The major improvements from the beginning are spam reduction. The interface looks as close to Microsoft Outlook Web Access as you can get. Right clicking on folders doesn’t produce the same result as Outlook Web Access but the general interface is identical. If you use Hotmail on the go and like to keep it synced up with your POP3 account with Contacts & Email then this new Hotmail is for you. You can import contacts from Outlook 2000/XP/2003 and Outlook Express 6 allowing users to swap Business contacts with Personal contacts.
Overall the new interface seems spam driven with the ability to keep messages in your Inbox down to contacts only etc. The interface when tested internally seems a lot faster than the current interface but this could be due to the servers it’s currently on. We’ve taken a few basic screenshots to show you the new features of what to expect from the upgrade. The upgrade will also enable certain features that MSN Premium depends upon. MSN Premium is due to be released by Early 2004 combined with the Next Generation Hotmail which should go live to public servers within the month.
They have also released some screenshots for those interested:

I like the GUI, it looks much neater, but I can’t relly tell much more than that. We will see about the spam and interfacing. I shall wait for it’s implementation with hope of a less spammed hotmail account.November 26, 2003 at 9:39 am #52983coolguyj2MemberQuote:quote:Originally posted by IMQueenWhen I clicked on the links, it said I don’t have permission to view the pix.

December 2, 2003 at 4:03 pm #52978magistykMemberIt is very slick, I like it a lot although it might be a little hard to navigate.
December 2, 2003 at 4:11 pm #52974detn8rParticipantYes, true. A few people in my class this morning couldn’t figure out how to compose a email. Also, the homepage had a pretty ‘sexual’ looking girl posing for some personal ad. What about the preteens here? MSN have totally overloaded it with adverts.
December 2, 2003 at 4:24 pm #52980BrianMemberI noticed the change last night, and I like the new facelift a lot. 🙂
December 2, 2003 at 6:46 pm #52981ladie_vennomMemberI like it..a change is always good. If u dont like the new tabs of Today, Mail, Contacts u can go under options->Mail->Hotmail Navigation and convert back to the old tabs of Home, Inbox, Compose, Calendar (when available) and Contacts 🙂
December 2, 2003 at 7:06 pm #52977Elytha_RoMemberits better this one….strange because its different but i like this definetely more then last ones

December 2, 2003 at 9:41 pm #52976detn8rParticipanthaha… its alternates between things. (The advert. on the log in screen) If you wish, just keep refreshing until she pops up 😉
December 3, 2003 at 12:50 am #52984restless311MemberDid everyone get extra storage for the email. I went from 10mb to 25mb. I signed up for MSN 8 and went from 2mb to 10mb but I was just trying MSN 8 out. Canceled it before I had to pay. That was 3 months ago and I still had 10mb before the change. Guess I got lucky.
December 4, 2003 at 6:31 am #52979MistahManParticipantOne thing that sucks tho, they seem to have removed the calendar feature from the free Hotmail. Chats are not free anymore and now this. I suspect that before long all of Hotmail will be a fee based service. Seems like this is where the internet is headed… I miss the free days of the internet…. Ahh well.
December 5, 2003 at 2:15 pm #52982coolguyj2Memberwell I dont like the look much, all the buttons like Delete have been posted above… u have to scroll the whole way up to del the mail… also same goes with FWD, REPLY, etc… also the Next and Previous Links have been replaced by the Up and Down Arrows… which was a bit difficult (atleast for me) to figure out…
