MemberYesterday I started having this probelm with YIM v. 6.0, that whenever I click the emoticons toolbar Yahoo Crashes and says it has encountered a problem and needs to close. But I can still send smiley’s fine, but only if I now the shorthand for them.:(
I dont really want to unistall and reinstall messenger as I have changed some of the files allready and it’s a pain having to change them all again, any other suggestions?

Did you consider that maybe you made a mistake while changing one of the files, and broke your Yahoo client? (I assume you’ve been ‘ResHacking’)

MemberNah i’m not that good on the comp lol! I just mean I changed ones like- the one that changes your menus back from 6.0 to 5.6. Nothing compicated, I wonder if that could have done something though? (is that ResHacking I dont even know what that means..)
i have recently reinstalled yahoo again, coz I myself messed up my smileys while moving them about in their folders (oops). Looks like I may have to again but I really dont wanna:(

Memberjust thought i’d update my post.
I ended up having to reinstall yahoo. I’ve done it twice now, the second wiping everything off even in the res key files. But when I use the updated Res_msgr.exe file to update my menus I stil have the same problem with my smiley toolbar.
It’s the latest version of this file and other people I know with it arent having the problem that I am. Can anyone help coz other wise im gonna have to learn the shorthands for all the smileys!!

MemberTry, uninstalling it, then reinstalling it.
and not adding the res_msgr patch.
ResHacking, is Resource Hacking, which is basically what the res_msgr patch does.
ResHack, do a google search on it, very nifty tool..

ParticipantThere is a program called smiley 6 that gives you a separate menu for all the smileys (including the hidden ones you can’t see thru messenger) at the bottom of the screen… don’t know if it would work but it’s worth a try… I think it is up for download at http://www.cool-yahoo.com Try that and see how it goes….

MemberUnsakred; if I reinstall and don’t add the res patch then its fine, but I want it coz I dont like the way the menu’s are in 6.0, and thnks for the tip I think I will have a look on google 🙂
amy_d_g; that sounds like a goodway to keep my res patch and still have a menu for smilies tnks! (though I think i’ll have to register to use that site)
i just d/l the smiley 6, it seems its another res file, should this replace a certain file somewhere in the yahoo files??

MemberGranted, its a lose lose situation in all aspects,
Either get rid of the menu patch, and have a more stable messenger,
Or use the msgr patch and have to download more software.
I think option A is a lot better than option b, but thats just my opinion

Memberhmm, I thing i’l just have to live with my smiley problem then. I know most of them already lol! thanks for your help 🙂

ParticipantThe smiley 6 is a simple exe application, doesn’t need to replace anything. Just double-click to open it and you will get the window with two buttons, hide and exit. Hide it, and there will be an icon in your tray at the bottom of the screen, when you want to use a smiley, click on that icon and the smiley menu comes up, just pick which one you want to use… make sure the IM window or chat window you want to use it in is on top… that’s it!
