Someguy03
MemberI am really good friends with this girl at my school. Neither of us love eachother and both are not interested in going out or anything, and probably never will be, but we hang out so much that people think that we “have something going” or they think that I’m about to ask her out.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to convince these people that we are just friends? It has grown into a school wide joke and everyone likes to take part in it.

MemberTo tell you the truth, that is the exact same thing that happened with me this year. Just don’t worry about it. I mean, what does it hurt that people think that? It’ll eventually go away, but don’t let it bother you. Trust me, I know from experience(kinda).

MemberIt has been over a month, and its still here. I don’t think It’s going to go away if I just let it sit there. I don’t want to scare away other girls that I might like, So I would rather end this as soon as possible. 😉

MemberWell, that happened to me three times, twice with the same girl (with a year between both instances).
Personally, I just ignore it, thankfully it never interfered with my dating anyone else :). However, to be honest, it never really bothered me in the least. People will always find something to gossip about you, and if you and her (your best freind) are ok about it, and can share a joke about it with no feelings at all, then it should never cause any problems.
Always do what feels good and natural, and you can’t go wrong. 🙂

MemberMy honest opinion Someguy, if girls think you are dating someone or that she is interested in you…then they will be more interested in you than they were before. There is something about guys with girlfriends…that makes you trust them.
I know a bunch of girls will say that is not true bla bla bla, but believe in my 25 year-old experience, it is indeed notoriously true.

Memberheh. Come to think of it, I’d have to agree with sciencefeeling. It’s logical. She’s right.
I wonder if it’s done subconciously or not..March 2, 2004 at 2:41 pm #83801tangledlisa
MemberIt’s the wanting what you can’t have syndrome. Girls will actually pay more attention to you if they think you already have a girlfriend. Someguy, you’re going to deal with situations like this alot the next couple of years. Blow it off and don’t jeopardize a good friendship just because people don’t know the facts.
Aww.. ain’t love grand :p

MemberQuote:quote:So I would rather end this as soon as possibleIs this what you call friendship?
Do people end friendship for their own interests and if they do, how do you find them eligible to call themselves good friends?
People tend to develop craving for things they can’t get; so is the case for some girls.
Its in no way ethical to let people affect your friendship just because of what they say and they probably dont have anything better to do.
Why should you care? Ah well you might do if you want more GFs than friends which in couple of years you’re going to see hangingout with someoneelse.
Btw in my opinion girls who really adore you wont change even if you’re good friends or hangout with some other girl.March 2, 2004 at 5:45 pm #83806Tigerblade

Is this what you call friendship?i think what someguy03 means is that he’d rather put an end to the rumors or the “school wide joke”… its an uncomfortable situation to be in (trust me I know). but yeah, i’m gonna have to agree with dme and sciencefeeling… just stick it out and you’ll be better off for it in the end

MemberAh, I’m sorry for the misunderstanding Hasan. Tigerblade, your right, I ment end the joke. I actually came here for advice on ways to end it without ending our friendship, as neither of us have any ideas and neither of us want anything happening. To make things easier to understand, Several years ago her brother died and he wasn’t in a very good relationship with her, and she felt really bad. So now her best friends are very close, and she is really worried about this all going wrong and us ending up hating eachother. I will tell her what you have said, thanks for your help.
Anyone have any ideas on how I can stop the guys from bugging me about it? My friend used to like her and in his opinion I “stole” her from him and now he wont lay off. (don’t tell me he must not really be my friend because he is, hes just got an interesting personalitie)
The girls don’t bug me about it, they just talk to me alot more than before, and I get ask me about her.
Its the guys that are horrible, they bug me all of the time about her. One example is that I was going to a camp, and me and her sat eachother the whole time. The kids in the seats next to us starting telling me that I needed to make my move now, and that I was running out of time. They also started daring me to kiss her and get on top of her. Then on the way back we were watching a romance movie, and one kid started telling me to take notes because I didn’t know how to hit on a girl. They dont understand that I don’t like her, and that I don’t want to make a move. Yes, it is horrible, and I have have no problem with the girls, but the guys are an issue.

MemberSomeguy, I think the guys are teasing you because they can see that they get a rise out of you. Just take it all with a grain of salt and show them that it doesn’t bother you what they say and they will soon get bored and move on to someone else.

MemberI agree with Impossible.
How about this… If one starts teasing you, pretend like you didn’t hear and try not to show your reaction. You might want to have your best friend do the same. It should do the trick.
