ParticipantI heard Firefox 1.0 was out, so I figured I’d give it a try again. I just have a few questions…
First, the e-mail button in the toolbar opens up my Yahoo mail… but it opens it in IE. Is there a way to change it so it just opens it in Firefox?
Also I was wondering if there is a version of the Yahoo Companion toolbar for Firefox?

MemberTry setting the “Firefox should check to see if it is the default browser” option. Hopefully that should make it use firefox when checking your yahoo mail. It’s in the General Options screen. But keep in mind IE might try to take control and become the default browser next time u load up IE, so you’ll probably have to do just the opposite in IE. As for the yahoo companion, I remember seeing the option to install the yahoo toolbar when I was installing macromedia shockwave player, they’re bundled together I guess. Hope that helps.

Go to:: Tools > Options > General > Put a check mark in where it says default browser. (see the post above)

Hope this is some of help. 🙂

ParticipantI got the Yahoo toolbar… works great, thanks guys! Only thing that sucks about it is it doesn’t look very good with themes, the little arrows on the buttons are usually too big.
🙂
Edit: I played around a bit trying to get this to work. Firefox is set as default browser, IE is NOT set to check if it the default browser. Still didn’t work, so I went into set program access and defaults (XP Pro) and set Firefox as default and unchecked the option “allow access to this program” for IE. Email button in Firefox is still opening up IE, any email links (mailto:xxx@xxx.com) and yahoo messenger also open yahoo mail in IE. But if I view profiles or click on any links through messenger, it opens firefox. Anyy other suggestions?

ParticipantAnother question… in my yahoo mail, when I compose a message, the little toolbar with the text formatting options and smilies etc.

on the top of the typing area isn’t there in firefox. Is this something that is just not supported in firefox, or am I missing a plug-in or something?November 13, 2004 at 1:17 am #104477Tigerblade
Participantthat font toolbar just isnt supported in firefox… I noticed this also a while ago, that isnt there in yahoo mail, or ebay, or basically anywhere. I never really used it to begin with, I tend to just use plain text, or use html tags to define fonts and colors…
if you really need to use it, just use IE (as evil as it is)

Usually comes packaged with yahoo messenger and redirects all mail links to yahoo mail. The extension is whats forcing IE. You could just uninstall it and place a bookmark on your Firefox toolbar pointed to “https://login.yahoo.com/config/login?.src=ym”
Or use that yahoo toolbar extension for firefox, that should have some kind of yahoo mail support.
