Yes, I’m aware of that, that’s why I said it was a bad thing, I’m saying that it may be what badogg88 is talking about.
I know. I was just stating that.

Memberi tried the linksys steps you mentioned to open up the port on my router, but that did nothing. my roomates all have AIM access(thus, not a router problem im guessing) but I still get a message error that says that I have signed on too many times or something..even though I sign on once. this message happens once im o and cut off after a few minutes or before I even get a chance to sign on….any ideas?
forgot to mention that I have windows ME operating system and a linksys router AIM 5.5

MemberI can’t figure out what the problem is with AIM always disconnecting. I upgraded to v5.9 and any time I try to video or talk it always disconnects me. It even occurs after I turn off my ZoneAlarm firewall. Now that I added a Linksys router it only complicates the matter. This is very aggravating and it’s hard to believe that there is no solution.
I have a PC, and the only reason I use AIM is that it is the only IM with video that also works on a Mac – I’m trying to video conference with friends overseas, and they all have Macs. None of the Mac users ever have problems with AIM, only those with PCs. If I’m trying to video conference with another PC, I always use Windows Messenger and I never have problems.

MemberYou would have to open up the ports on AIM for Video and Talk most likely. I don’t know them at the moment.

MemberHey Guys… I’ve been having this same problem too as well lately. I’m behind a Netgear router, and I tried to open the AOL port 5190 which is the port I connect to. Two of the computers I use continuously reconnect every 20 minutes or so… My Network connection still says that it’s been connected for like 2 hours, but AIM disconnects and reconnects. I did just reformat my PC, but I reinstalled the Network card drivers thinking that was the problem, but to no avail.
If you guys do find a solution to this problem or have any methods to try, either post back here, or more preferably e-mail me at Ralkarin@adelphia.net or when it’s not kickin me off, Ralkarin on AIM.
Thanks guys!

MemberHmm, this is strange. I followed all the instructions for the Linksys routers. After I did this, my AIM still disconnects every now and then (but immediately signs back on), but before, even after it signed back on from a disconnect, the connection was still gone (I couldn’t view user profiles, I wouldn’t receive messages) but now I can…weird…

MemberAnybody have any instructions on how to get a netgear router to stop disconnecting AIM? Me and my roommates have a wireless router with 4 PCs hooked up, originally 3 of us had no problem with AIM and one did. Then all the sudden my pc started disconnecting all the time too, so any fixes or anybody know how to set this up to get it to let us all on? Thanks

For LinkSys:1. Go to http://192.168.1.1 in your web browser. Leave username spot blank and put “admin” for the password.
2. Click on the Advanced section.
3. On the top bar click Forwarding.
4. Application: AIM
5. Start: 5190
6. End: 5190
7. Protocol: TCP
8. IP Address: your private IP address (i.e. 192.168.1.102) You can find your IP out by going Start>Run>cmd .. when the prompt comes up type “ipconfig” and your IP Address will show.
9. Click the Enable box.
10. Go to the bottom of the page and click Save Settings.Go to your AIM buddy list and at the top click My AIM > Edit Options > Edit Prefrences. Click the Sign On/Off tab on the left and click the Connection button at the bottom right. Make sure your connecting through:
Host: login.oscar.aol.com
Port: 5190I’m having the same problem for several months after I got the linksys router. I tried the above method, adding or changin ports, config aim connection doesnt solve the problem. I have two pc connected to the router, but only 1 pc having the aim connection problem (sometime the whole internet connection interrrupted ) it’ll restart again after few mins. The other pc on the same network works fine (even at the same time when the other pc connection interrrupted). No AIM config in the router either. So far, there’s no solution to this. I have looked through Linksys support forum, search the webs. Nothing.
Both pc running XP SP2.October 22, 2004 at 8:00 pm #38587Tropical
MemberLinksys does seem to have the most problems with AIM.. I don’t even think most people need to configure D-Link.
Make sure under “Restrict Access” that AIM isnt blocked in the “Blocked Services” section.
