MemberOk… so in the past few weeks, AIM has been piping in audio ads. I have heard ads for AOL 9.0 Optimized, Elf the movie and now this week, I’m inundated with Matrix Reloaded audio ads.
These are the most annoying intrusive things I have ever heard in my life, and I can’t believe no one has posted a topic on it yet. Can anyone tell me how the heck I can get rid of these audio ads? They come up at any random time and the only way to stop them is to close out AIM while the ad is running.
I am running version 5.2.3292 and this all started maybe like 3 weeks ago.

MemberI also had deadAIM. If you look at the deadAIM forums, this is happening to us deadAIM users as well. However, it’s also happening to some of my friends who do not use deadAIM. I can’t understand it for the life of me and really need to shut them off somehow. They’ve quite literally scared the crap out of me a couple times, cause I’ll have no audio going on my puter and then all of a sudden one of these ads start playing out of nowhere.

KeymasterMaybe now that JDennis is working for AOL, DeadAIM won’t mean “De-Ad AIM” anymore.

ParticipantHow about getting AIM 5.1 from http://www.OldVersion.com and DeadAIM 3.2 (From OldVersion as well)? I use Trilian, but I think that will fix it…

Participantwell i already have DeadAIM 3.2 — its not the new version (i’m not gonna pay for it… the few extra features arent worth paying money for, but i digress)
as for downgrading AIM… isnt there some other option?? what about the new Beta version of AIM?? anyone have any experience with that and ads, deadAIM compatibility, etc etc ? i dont really wanna downgrade, plus i’ve made some extensive customizing on AIM that i dont want to start over with

ParticipantYo everyone, I have the recent version of deadaim (yes its bought and paid for thanks to my friend) and i to recieved those annoying audio ads. Best way to get rid of them is to download reshack and delete the ad through there. No, i’m going to explain how its been answered in this forum many of times, use the search feature. It works i know it because i havent had an ad after i did this.

Also Bmarley you haven been told not to post anything on pirated software in ANY[/b] way, shape, or form. I’m not telling admins how to do there jobs but i think its time for one of you to step in. 😉I came, I saw, I stepped in.

MemberI hate to say this but, HAHAH!! I have a Mac and I use iChat. There aren’t any ads at all, and you get the stylin’ interface :D.
And please don’t post pirated stuff. I do it too (Arr, I’m thae Mac pirate), but this is no place for it.

Participantactually there is a way around it (so it seems thus far at least) without resorting to reshack (which isnt practical for most people)… in whatever directory you installed AIM in, delete the file Advert.ocm. then make a copy of Admin.ocm and rename it to Advert.ocm
i havent gotten any audio ads since i remembered to do this again (i had to reinstall AIM a week or so ago, and forgot to redo this… doh!)
