I just got a friend to sign up for YIM on their MacOS9 (latest version of YIM), and now they’re online. Problem is that I can see the ‘xxx is typing a message’ at the foot of the window, but nothing is coming through.
I am also on MacOS9 and I’ve never come across this before. She is using a router with a built in firewall I think – could this be the problem?

What color text is she using?? Did you try to highlight to make sure it’s not just that she’s typing in white?? It’s a simple (most likely not so helpful) idea. Also, are you sure your friend is typing to YOU?? Sometimes you see “XXX is typing a message” but XXX is typing a message to someone else. And is this latest version the infamous “beta” version?? That might have something to do with it. If it’s the firewall, maybe she has to configure her messenger as behind a firewall in preferences.
