KeymasterI just posted an excerpt from a pre-release review of Google Talk. It’s got screen shots. Check it out.
I like the user interface. Clean and simple, like we’ve come to expect from Google. Not for everbody, but I like it.

MemberHaha It looks it was coded in an hour just so they would have something to show to us.
BUT, you can already tell its headed in a good direction.

Or is it not for public use?Gmail is not yet public, it’s in it’s beta state so for getting a gmail account you must not an invitation from some beta tester an already user of gmail. Post your e-mail id so that I may send you a gmail invitation:)
Edit
I have sent an invite at your Yahoo! mail box i.e; grisha100@yahoo.com that address was in your profile, hope you enjoy Gmail and GTalk.;)August 24, 2005 at 6:18 am #128400Lord_Setuweath

MemberThank you, Aqeel!
I tried it out, and, in fact, it does look like it was coded in an hour(okay, two hours), but it’s a start.
Not very flexible, as far as settings are concerned, and it doesn’t seem to allow you to enter an away message, which would be quite useful. And I sure hope they add skin support, since I’m one of those people who usually prefer the classic window look(unless it gets too boring) to the fancy designs. Not that it’s interface is too complicated, but still I like things more simple.August 24, 2005 at 1:08 pm #128395AwesomeSauce
ParticipantI love it. The interface is simple. The chat windows are small and simple. If you know me, you know I love simplicity. But my friends are nothing like that. I’m thinking that probably, if I introduced this to some of my friends they would say “This is boring” or “Can’t I have a display picture?” or “How do I change my font and color?!”
But I’m still kind of hoping it stays like this. I love it the way it is, however I guess it wouldn’t hurt if it had a few more features.

ParticipantI’m a minimalist. I like things to be as simple and clean and efficient as possible. From what i’ve seen so far in screenshots and your descriptions, sounds like google has done that nicely. i’m of the persuasion that these chat clients should be just that… CHAT clients. not “ooh ooh look at my beautiful icon” clients, or “ooh ooh look at all these features” clients. CHAT. You use them to talk to people. that’s it.
of course, a skin function would come in handy so that the client can match people’s desktop themes if they’ve got one going… other than that, simpler is better.

ParticipantI installed and ran this last night. It’s still very basic. I’m not sure what limitations that Jabber protocol has, so I don’t know how much will be added. I’d like to see the ability to have three-or-more-way-calling, and three-or-more-way-chats too (like MSN has).
I pulled out my headset last night and talked to Spike for a few hours, we played around with what features exist so far, and the audio quality. Not only is the quality awesome, but it’s also near impossible to make it lag for a significant amount of time.
Overall, I expect good things to come of this.

MemberWell, since nobody has mentioned these, I figure I will. These are just odd little features you have to try to notice.
- Typing a smiley will turn it blue, such as “:)”, “:P”, and “;)”.
- Encasing text in asterisks will turn it bold, such as *sigh*.
I’ll post more as I figure them out, but seeing how minimal this client is, I would think that’s about it.
