MemberIt’s that spooky time of year and we’re coming up to the nights where goblins and monsters ring your doorbell trick-or-treating. As a relatively new parent (mine just turned 3) I’m more concerned about what kids want these days. I don’t want to be the lame mom on the block that hands out one dum-dum sucker but then again can’t refinance my house paying for 300 oversized snicker bars.. (ok I may be exaggerating). Any tips on what’s a good/safe handout??

KeymasterPersonally? I prefer chocolate. Mini-sized are fine. Depending on how many kids you expect, get a few bags, then keep a bag or two of hard candy as a backup in case you run out early.

ParticipantActually, from my past experience, I liked it when people gave out pop. Now you dont have to go all out and spend your whole pay-cheque on coke, but the cheap no-name brands that you can pick up cheap at the local wal-mart.
The worst thing you can hand out? Plain potato chips. Your asking to be egged!:DOctober 18, 2003 at 2:42 am #54299darkc0ne
Member….i want potato chips and coke! That would be better then having nothing to drink after eating your whole bag of candy in one night.
The worst thing i’ve ever gotten was year old chocolate..new chocolate is great, but a year realy makes it…egh.October 18, 2003 at 7:51 am #54292Anna
ParticipantI haven’t gone trick or treating in YEARS (with the exception of trick-or-treating as Batman last July with friends, yes, July, yes we’re crazy ;)).
But I personally like the chips (or cheesies), and mini-chocolates (especially Caramilk). Yummy!

ParticipantI’m tellin ya… if you wanna be a cool mom, be different. Not too many people give out pop. Too many chips N chocolate bars. grab a case of two of the cheap pop, and give that out; see the reaction, and you will be the coolest on the street. Kids will look forward to coming to your house next year. But just be careful of the ones who like to turn their costume inside out and come back for more.

MemberPop is too expensive, especially if you have a big neighborhood.

ParticipantLike I said, you dont have to go all out and buy coke, or pepsi. You can get presidents choice, and others for very cheap.
Unless your cheap 😀 remember she wants to be the ‘cool mom’October 19, 2003 at 5:40 am #54296magistyk
MemberPfft, why would any mom spend money so kids will come back next year and years after that just so they can get free coke? 😀

MemberOoh I had a next-door neighbor who handed out pop (yes pop, not soda hehehe) every Halloween. He was the coolest effin guy ever, I swear. And it was good pop too. Pepsi, Coke, Mountain Dew. Yummmm. My friends and I would trick-or-treat at his house, then go back to my place to change into a totally different costume and go back to get more pop. Gosh, we were stinkers.

MemberIf the kids want free coke they know to come to my house anyways since hub conveniently works for Coca-Cola.. but that IS an original idea. I’m just thinking of the little ones that’ll have to lug that can of soda around with them and all that candy. Thanks for all the suggestions!
