Where were you on November 17, 1996? Probably not chatting online (at least not yet). That’s when a tiny company by the name Mirabilis launched the first version of ICQ (I Seek You).
ICQ met a need, and grew quickly through “viral marketing;” one user sharing with his friends (who share with his friends, etc.). Now just six years later, there are millions of users on multiple IM systems, and it’s difficult to imagine not having instant messaging. Mirabilis kick-started an entire industry.
