MemberBecause the newer yahoo crashed so often with WIN 98, I uninstalled and reinstalled 5,6,0 1358. I cannot connect.
I have checked and tried each preference multiple times (no proxies, firewall with no proxies, and no network detection), which is exactly what Help says to do. With no proxies and no network detection, I get an automatic “Yahoo Messenger Can’t Connect.” With firewall no proxies I just return to the login screen.
My internet provider (roadrunner) assures me there are no proxies. They pinged and verified (as I already knew) there is no firewall. In Explorer 6.0 I have nothing checked in LAN settings, as the IP suggested.
Yahoo customer service has replied to my detailed requests for with the copied and pasted help page. Don’t you love them?
Does anyone have any suggestions?

MemberAfter using yahoo version 6 and reverstion back to 5.5 yahoo not everyones yahoo gets to work. so heres the simple trick
1) Go to my computer icon.. click on it then click on local c drive then click on program files folder then scroll down and find yahoo folder.. click on that. Then you will see a folder called Messenger When Inside there you will see a Folder called profiles Right hand click on it and copy it onto Desktop… This Is Your YAHOO ARCHIVEs of convos with your freinds.
close that down
2) Go to start… settings and click on control panel. When there click on Add/Remove and click on Yahoo to hightlight and then click on remove.
3) When Removed – Go to my computer icon.. click on it then click on local c drive then click on program files folder then scroll down and find yahoo folder – Right hand click on it and delete.
4) Empty Recycle bin – If you are feeling EXTRA Brave.. ( its not important if you dont do this ) – click on start and click on run – type in regedit and then click on ok… the registry box will appear – when it does – a registry box will appear.
5) Click on the + sign on where it says HKEY_CURRENT_USER and scroll down and you will see it says software .. click on that + sign and scroll down again and you will see it says yahoo – right hand click on it and click delete then close the registry box down.
6) Totally reboot your computer – instal 1358 yahoo – and then once installed – Go to my computer icon.. click on it then click on local c drive then click on program files folder then scroll down and find yahoo folder.. click on that. Then you will see a folder called Messenger and on any blank space in there paste your profiles folder in there ( copied from desktop of course ) and then close it down
7) Log online and messenger should now work.
if not come back and let us know
