I hate my work computer and the constraints of our network security. I find it odd that I can get the normal ICQ and Yahoo to connect as well as the Web-based AIM, but can never get Trillian, Miranda, or Gaim to connect. Grrrr…
I’ve even tried to use the working proxy (http) setting from ICQ (us_proxy_***.xh1.***.com, port: 9000) in trillian and miranda, but no luck. What can I do in order to get a connection? It seems that if ICQ etc… can connect, I should be able to use that connection information with Miranda etc…
I can connect to both AIM and ICQ through our corporate firewall, both with the native client apps and Trillian. I’m not currently using a proxy server, although I’ve done so successfully in the past.
One trick that has helped is using one of the odd AIM ports — sometimes those are not blocked — although in your case, because you can already connect via AIM (but not Trillian), I don’t think that will make any difference. Just in case, I’ve attached a screenshot of my own settings.
It is likely that AIM has been auto-configured to use a different AIM port, if Jeff’s suggestion does not work, go to the AIM sign-on screen, select Setup, then Connection and check what port/server AIM is configured to use. 13 and 21 are also ports you can try if that does not work.
Thanks fellas. I’ve tried your suggestions and still nothing. Looks like I’m on lockdown here. Oh well.
